Job Title: Safety Specialist – Data Center
Reports To: Project Safety Manager
Location: Sparks, Nevada
This position is primarily on‑site at the project location or in the office, with varying travel depending on project timeline. The Safety Specialist supports the Project Team in developing and sustaining an Incident and Injury Free Culture (IIFC), ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations, and assisting in the development and maintenance of a strong Project Safety Roadmap.
Responsibilities- Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of safety programs through daily field walks and logging observations.
- Support the Safety team in executing project‑specific corrective action plans to address safety issues and concerns.
- Provide feedback to Safety leadership on observed safety improvement and recognition needs.
- Coach employees exhibiting unsafe behaviors and recognize safe behaviors.
- Assist with job site‑specific safety orientations for new employees as applicable.
- Provide basic safety training and testing for all employees (Haz Com, Fall Protection, Lockout/Tag‑out, etc.).
- Support Project Leadership in completing incident investigations.
- Assist in facilitation of injury/illness cases.
- Raise potential compliance risks to Safety leadership.
- Attend the assigned safety meetings each morning and evaluate participation and effectiveness.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- OSHA 30 Construction certification required; CPR/FA certification preferred; STS, STSC certifications preferred.
- 0–2 years of construction safety experience (electrical safety experience preferred).
- Valid state‑issued driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
- Understanding of electrical industry consensus standards such as NFPA, NESC, ASTM, and ANSI.
- Experience working with a union workforce desirable.
- Ability to develop solid relationships with key stakeholders.
- Organization and communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
- Bi‑lingual desirable.
- Authorized to work in the United States; no sponsorship.
- Standing, walking, sitting, climbing, typing, carrying, pushing, bending in indoor and outdoor construction settings; environmental conditions vary.
- Valid driver’s license necessary to drive within expansive work sites.
- Occasional work at heights, in confined spaces, and lifting up to 40 pounds.
