Logistics Program Manager, Battery Recycling

Overview

The Lithium & Recycling (LiR) group in Cell Engineering is responsible for the reliable and efficient flow of all battery materials from Tesla’s factories and Service locations to approved battery reclamation & recycling facilities. The battery recycling programs team manages packaging assets that are used to move batteries and battery materials between suppliers and Tesla facilities. This position is responsible for the execution of returnable transport packaging (RTP) container flow design, analyzing and optimizing container conveyance to support material handling, production, warehouse layouts, and processes related to recycling of all Tesla products, enabling unprecedented vertical integration, cost control and agility.

This is a comprehensive life-cycle management role, interacting with Suppliers, Finance, Material Planning, Logistics, Global Supply Management, Packaging Engineering, and Production Control, to ensure material handling and returnable packaging programs operating at peak efficiency.

• Collaborate with stakeholder teams to prioritize and maximize operational efficiency of battery recycling logistics & container management
• Design and optimize material and returnable transport packaging (RTP) flow, facility layouts by analyzing buffer sizes using process modeling
• Lead and own PFEP standardization and adoption of processes through the entire value stream of material flow
• Develop simulation models for processes for receiving, staging for shipping
• Analyze and improve container flow processes from the network of production and service distribution facilities to battery recycling facilities
• Work with 3PL logistics provider to ensure process improvements are being executed to the expected levels
• Work with logistics stakeholder to drive reduction in total logistics cost and other KPI’s
• Develop business cases for improvement projects with a focus on workforce planning and management
• Create documentation for training materials such as job cards, standard work, and standard operating procedures
• Lead continuous improvements initiatives to improve warehouse conditions and lower the total handling cost/container

• Degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management or equivalent experience and evidence of extraordinary ability
• 3+ years of experience in managing supply chain operations, logistics, or manufacturing
• Knowledge of lean principles, logistics business systems, pre-determined motion and time standards
• Previous experience with manpower requirement calculations preferred
• Previous experience in a high velocity warehouse or production setting preferred
• Advanced skills in Excel, SQL or other analytical tools for data mining and analysis
• Demonstrated talent for implementing process flow improvements
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, or similar 2D CAD software
• Previous World Class Manufacturing and Material Handling experience
