What to Expect
Tesla is seeking an OT Security Engineer to support and secure manufacturing operations at Giga Nevada, with a primary focus on high volume production systems and the Tesla Semi program. This role is central to protecting some of Tesla’s most production‑critical and fast‑evolving manufacturing environments.
This engineer will operate directly inside factories, supporting battery manufacturing, vehicle systems, Semi‑related production equipment, and site OT networks. The role requires close collaboration with Manufacturing Engineering, Controls, IT Manufacturing, Facilities, and Info Sec teams to implement security controls that scale without disrupting production.
The ideal candidate is technically strong in industrial automation and robotics, confident working in live environments, and capable of balancing aggressive production timelines with measurable security outcomes.
What You’ll Do- Execute OT security initiatives across:
Giga Nevada manufacturing lines, Tesla Semi‑related production, test, and support environments, facility and infrastructure OT networks - Drive vulnerability management, patching, and firmware baselines for PLCs, HMIs, robot controllers, and industrial PCs
- Leverage Claroty for OT asset visibility, vulnerability tracking, and anomaly detection
- Partner with Controls Engineering and IT Manufacturing to harden industrial endpoints, improve network segmentation, and OT architecture
- Support and enhance secure remote access solutions for internal teams and external vendors
- Contribute to industrial robotics security initiatives, including controller hardening, credential and access control improvements, firmware and configuration standardization
- Support OT incident response, investigations, and post‑incident remediation
- Enable secure onboarding of new Semi tooling, equipment, and production lines
- Participate in threat modeling and security reviews for new manufacturing capabilities
- Help operationalize global OT security standards, playbooks, and best practices
- 2+ years of experience in OT, IC, SCADA, or manufacturing security roles
- Experience securing industrial automation and robotics in production environments
- Strong knowledge of PLC platforms (Rockwell, Siemens, Beckhoff)
- Familiarity with OT protocols such as Ether Net/IP, Profinet, and Modbus
- Hands‑on experience with Claroty or similar OT security tooling
- Experience supporting secure remote access in OT environments
- Proven ability to execute remediation in uptime‑critical systems
- Exposure to OT incident response workflows
- Familiarity with SIEM tools (Splunk preferred)
- Security certifications and real‑world manufacturing execution experience are a plus
