Overview
Process Engineer II position within Panasonic Energy’s Cell & Process Engineering team. The role focuses on process improvement projects for defect reduction, new material integration, and overall equipment efficiency in battery manufacturing.
ResponsibilitiesJob Summary
The Process Engineer II will develop and implement process strategies, manage resources, and optimize current manufacturing processes. Key tasks include:
- Participate in continuous improvement of processes, support new model conversions, and assist in line setup.
- Use troubleshooting skills to identify root causes and implement countermeasures for chronic production issues.
- Coordinate with engineering, maintenance, and quality teams on process and machine improvement activities.
- Make data-driven decisions and enhance data analysis capabilities.
- Develop permanent structures and countermeasures to address daily manufacturing challenges at the intersection of productivity, quality, loss, and safety.
- Implement and expand new countermeasures into production lines.
- Audit manufacturing processes to ensure compliance with product specifications and standards.
- Create standard work instructions, SOPs, and troubleshooting guides.
- Support industrial automation implementation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Full Tyvek suit, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, face mask, bump cap, and a full hazmat suit with respirator may be required.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Materials, Industrial, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (required).
- Master’s Degree in the same fields (preferred).
Essential Qualifications
- 2–4 years of process or manufacturing engineering experience.
- Experience in a full‑cycle engineering environment.
- Ability to train operators on new or revised processes.
- Flexibility to work between manufacturing floor and office.
- Machine and process troubleshooting with root‑cause analysis.
- Project experience in scrap reduction, cost improvements, and FTE reduction.
- Strong engineering skills: process development, data analysis, tolerancing, MPI’s.
- Effective communication and stakeholder alignment.
- Knowledge of FTA, FMEA, and other analytical tools.
- Team‑working skills at all organizational levels.
- Independent, self‑starter with strong prioritization and delivery focus.
- Proactive customer‑service mindset both internally and externally.
- Working‑level English proficiency.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with lithium‑ion battery theory or R&D.
- Knowledge of roll‑to‑roll processing techniques.
- Material management and control experience.
- Electrochemistry and solutions chemistry applied to production.
- Control strategy, PLC, and sensor/actuator expertise.
- Industrial data analysis or MES experience.
- High‑volume manufacturing experience (1M+ units/day).
- Six‑sigma methodology familiarity.
- Alignment with Panasonic’s seven core principles.
