Licensed Psychologist - Sparks

Position: LICENSED PSYCHOLOGIST 1 - SPARKS
The Division of Public and Behavioral Health, Lake's Crossing Center, in Sparks, Nevada is recruiting for a Licensed Psychologist I. The mission of Lake's Crossing Center is to provide statutorily-required forensic mental health services to mentally disordered offenders referred by the court system for treatment for the purposes of restoring their competency and to individuals who have been committed to the Division for long-term care.

The psychologists at Lake's Crossing Center provide both direct and indirect client services.

Duties include:

psychological testing and interpretation of results, documentation as required by the agency, synthesizing data to form opinions, complete competency evaluations, writing detailed reports to be submitted to the court, adhere to statutory requirements, attend meetings, participate in committees, meet all deadlines, counseling with clients, consultation with multidisciplinary staff, communicate with attorneys, treatment planning, provide expert testimony, and overall coordination of clients in inpatient, outpatient, and/or other settings, such as a detention center.

Licensed Psychologists operate within the agency but are expected to practice with a high degree of independence to produce the level of competency reports expected within the field. Additionally, professional duties are performed in accordance with license requirements of the State of Nevada Board of Psychological Examiners. Psychologists must be certified to perform competency evaluations as required by the State of Nevada.

The agency will provide this certification to the selected candidate once hired. This recruitment may be used to fill multiple vacancies for both full-time and part-time positions. Full-time positions typically work Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm. Part-time position hours vary based on agency needs. For all positions, hours may vary and include evenings and weekends, depending on the needs of the agency.

The work environment requires a high level of awareness and security, as well as the ability to deal with maladaptive and aggressive clients.

Licensed Psychologists provide psychological testing, evaluation, psychotherapy, counseling, and consultation to clients or inmates in residential, inpatient and outpatient settings, at a mental health, intellectual disabilities, or correctional facility, or in other settings where psychological services are provided.
Professional duties are performed in accordance with license requirements of the State of Nevada Board of Psychological Examiners.

One year of post-doctoral experience in providing psychological services in an inpatient, outpatient or residential setting.

Administer, score and interpret a wide variety of diagnostic and projective tests in order to evaluate and diagnose clients, patients, parolees, students or inmates; write comprehensive psychological reports to include test results, clinical observations, findings and recommendations; document services provided in client charts.

Provide crisis intervention services; de-escalate clients who are hostile, combative or physically aggressive, following established agency policies; refer clients to community resources or other agencies; arrange for residential or inpatient admissions as necessary.

Participate in treatment team meetings to discuss the status and progress of clients and recommend specific courses of treatment; develop treatment plans or individualized functional analysis programs; provide individual, family and group therapy and substance abuse counseling utilizing a variety of psychotherapeutic techniques.

Perform psycho-sexual evaluations on sex offenders to include diagnostic classification and a report summary identifying the diagnosis, risk assessment, mental health assessment, education level, family and medical history, statement of amenability to treatment, and suggested treatment interventions.

Review psychosocial assessments written by other clinicians to monitor and evaluate treatment effectiveness, determine eligibility for program services or benefits applying the appropriate laws and regulations; consult with treating clinicians; ensure service…
