Position: SENIOR ACTIVITIES THERAPY TECHNICIAN

activity therapy technicians support the evaluation, therapeutic programming, clinical treatment, and assessment of patients receiving the services of a therapist. The division of public and behavioral health/lake's crossing center (lcc) is recruiting for an activities therapy technician 2 position. The position will help clients use recreational activities to enhance health, independence, and well-being, in accordance to capabilities, needs and interests. Duties include scheduling and conducting group activities, assisting in the implementation of treatment plan, instructing and guiding clients in the completion of activities or exercise, monitoring clients' performance during activity therapy, maintaining documentation and records of clients' attendance and participation, reporting and documenting incidents and accidents according to established procedures and performing other duties as assigned.

This full-time position is located in a 24 hour maximum security facility and the work schedules include weekends. Individuals applying for these positions must have experience conducting therapeutic activities to a group of people, which involve expressive arts and recreational therapy.

essential qualifications

two or more years of applicable experience as described in the job duties and graduation from high school or equivalent education.

job duties
  • assist in the implementation of the treatment plan according to therapist specifications.
  • assist patients with physical, mental, and cognitive disabilities in therapeutic activities.
  • instruct and guide patients in the completion of activities or exercises.
  • observe patient behavior, physical condition, and use of correct body mechanics.
  • monitor patient progress and provide information on participation, attendance, activity tolerance, effort and attitude, memory and concentration, interaction with others, and response to supervision.
  • provide vital sign monitoring and first aid and/or cpr as needed.
  • orient patients to clinic area and provide instruction on use and care of clinic tools and equipment.
  • develop positive rapport with patients and staff and provide direction and encouragement to patients.
  • inspect, clean, and provide routine maintenance to equipment.
  • clean areas to ensure a safe and therapeutic environment.
  • oversee inventory and procure necessary materials.
  • maintain documentation and records and report and document incidents and accidents.
  • schedule patient treatments, arrange transportation for outings, and assist in adaptive equipment construction.
  • act as a lead worker by assigning and reviewing work, training, and providing input to performance evaluations and work performance standards.
  • perform related duties as assigned.

    • methods, modalities, and techniques used in the designated therapy; safety and health standards related to the provision of therapy services; general patient and/or client care; confidentiality, rights, and code of ethics; purchasing procedures; durable medical equipment and assistive devices used in the designated type of therapy.
    ability to:
    • demonstrate and teach therapy modality techniques and procedures as allowed in the therapy area and within licensing requirements; explain and demonstrate correct body mechanics; prepare records and documents related to billing, attendance, inventory, and accident reports; inventory and maintain supplies.
    • recognize safety hazards and take appropriate corrective measures; take vital signs as indicated using appropriate methods.
