In this pivotal role, you’ll be the guardian of our data center operations, driving reliability and performance while optimizing operational efficiency across complex technical environments. The Data Center Facility Manager acts as Amazon’s front line for hands‑on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting, maintaining, operating, and troubleshooting mission‑critical data center facility equipment – including standby diesel generators, fuel systems, 3‑phase electrical systems (switch gear, UPS units, PDUs), wet cell batteries, CRAC units, chillers, cooling towers, water chemical systems, air handlers, pumps, motors, fire suppression systems, building automation systems, and general facilities equipment.
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. You will collaborate with software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles to deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost.
Effective May 15, 2017, logical access to the AWS Gov Cloud region will be restricted to Amazon employees who are U.S. Citizens. (Gov Cloud may NOT be accessed from outside of the United States.)
Key Responsibilities- Oversee all aspects of the data center’s critical infrastructure, ensuring high quality work without impacting internal or external customers.
- Oversee the safety, security, availability, quality, and performance of the team, driving a positive customer experience across multiple shift schedules.
- Manage teams of 24/7 engineering technicians and Facility Managers in all facets of their career development.
- Engage in improvement projects, often requiring coordination with a variety of support teams, and drive them from conception to completion.
- Ensure staffing levels are maintained and grow with expansions.
- Be actively involved in ongoing construction activities.
- Coordinate daily with a multitude of third-party vendors, ensuring adherence to contracted SLAs.
- Effectively and efficiently manage the operations budget and expenditures.
- 3+ years of Microsoft Office product and application experience.
- 5+ years of work in a managerial or supervisory role with 8-10 or more direct reports.
- 3+ years of experience in industrial electrical and mechanical systems.
- Knowledge of the electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations, including feeders, transformers, generators, switch gear, UPS systems, ATS units, PDU units, chillers, pumps, air handling units, and CRAC units.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, engineering technology, or equivalent; or 7+ years of experience working in a data center or other mission‑critical environment with an emphasis on building and equipment operation.
- Experience communicating technical details verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work in an environment that involves walking, stooping, bending, and climbing to access equipment.
- Behavioral interviewing and hiring experience.
