Overview
Panasonic Energy Corporation of North America (PECNA) is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer II to join our world‑leading lithium‑ion battery initiative. The role focuses on improving production efficiency, quality, and cost while maintaining safety and reliability on high‑volume manufacturing lines.
Job SummaryAs a member of the Battery Manufacturing Engineering team, you will provide engineering support for daily production activities, optimize Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), troubleshoot production issues, coordinate with maintenance, and develop permanent countermeasures to improve productivity, quality, and safety.
Essential Duties- Support Panasonic’s battery production to ensure clean operation of world‑class manufacturing lines.
- Provide engineering support for daily production activities and optimize OEE to increase productivity and reduce defect and loss.
- Utilize OEE and other production data to effectively manage tasks and activities.
- Demonstrate solid troubleshooting skills and promptly solve unknown problems.
- Resolve real‑time production problems to maintain production and reduce defects.
- Work with maintenance teams to coordinate reactive and preventative maintenance activities.
- Collaborate with engineering/maintenance teams to develop permanent countermeasures for common manufacturing problems, addressing productivity, quality, loss, and safety.
- Implement and expand new permanent countermeasures into production lines.
- Monitor and audit manufacturing processes to ensure product specifications and standards are achieved.
- Develop clear and standard work instructions, SOPs, and troubleshooting guides.
- Support manufacturing industrial automation.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- Wear PPE including, but not limited to, full Tyvek suit, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, face mask, bump cap, and a full hazmat suit with respirator.
- Basic/
Required:- High School diploma or GED.
- B.S./M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related discipline.
- 3–5 years of relevant experience.
- Evidence of exceptional ability and full‑cycle engineering ownership.
- Experience performing engineering functions and responsibilities in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work production shift schedules.
- Ability to train manufacturing operators on new or revised process instructions or tooling.
- Flexibility to perform duties between manufacturing floor and office/desk.
- Proficient in machine and process troubleshooting with root cause analysis.
- Strong manufacturing background with high mechanical aptitude.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge or experience with 3D CAD, mechanical drawings, MPI, P&IDs.
- Experience designing fixtures, jigs, brackets, etc.
- Ability to improve maintainability of equipment.
- Engineering skills in process development/improvement, troubleshooting, data analysis, tolerancing, MPI.
- Knowledge of FTA, FMEA.
- Strong teamwork at all levels and ability to collaborate with direct labor.
- Self‑starter who works independently and follows up with minimal direction.
- Manage multiple concurrent tasks in a fast‑paced environment, prioritize work, and deliver quality results.
- Strong work ethic with a “get the job done” approach and excellent customer service.
- Experience with control strategy, PLC, and sensor/actuator relationships.
- Experience with industrial data analysis or Manufacturing Execution System (MES).
- Experience in a high‑volume manufacturing environment (1M+ units per day).
- Experience working in machine shops and fabricating machine parts.
- Experience coordinating and collaborating with contractors.
- Familiarity with Six Sigma methodologies and tools.
