Requirements

Job Purpose:

The Food Bank of Northern Nevada works to assist the Northern Nevada community with access to food on multiple levels, including helping to apply for the Supplemental Food Assistance Program (SNAP). The SNAP Outreach Worker is responsible for direct SNAP Outreach efforts. This position is responsible for assisting potential SNAP clients in eligibility prescreening, application assistance, and conducting SNAP interviews with a variety of clients.

Through this role, we’re able to better connect neighbors with essential food assistance and reduce barriers to accessing SNAP.

Required

Education and Experience
  • Must be bilingual/bi-literate Spanish (speak, read and write Spanish)
  • Valid driver’s license and proof of driving record.
  • High School Diploma.
  • Willing to complete the SNAP Application Assistance and Initial Interview Training.
  • Willing to complete Community Health Worker Certificate.
  • Willing to complete CPR Certification.
Preferred Education & Experience
  • 2-4 years’ non-profit experience/including volunteer experience.
Essential Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Responsible for all direct SNAP Outreach activities to increase access and participation in the SNAP Program.
  • Actively conduct outreach in the community, present SNAP program information to local partner organizations, and distribute SNAP promotional materials and advertising.
  • Provide all potential SNAP clients with eligibility prescreening, application assistance, and conduct SNAP interviews as needed.
  • Maintain and update accurate records of client applications, client calls, and telephone recordings.
  • Work directly with low-income adults, parents of school-aged children, individuals experiencing homelessness, and other community members seeking support.
  • Build relationships with new and existing community partners to expand the referral network and encourage increased program participation.
  • Provide presentations and ongoing support to community partners so they can confidently share SNAP information and refer neighbors to services available.

Knowledge
