As a Safety Specialist III, you will be a senior member of the health, safety, and environmental (HSE) team, responsible for driving continuous improvement in safety performance, leading complex safety initiatives, mentoring junior team members, and serving as a subject matter expert on HSE matters.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and implementation of HSE policies and procedures.
  • Perform detailed safety inspections and risk assessments.
  • Develop and deliver HSE training programs for employees.
  • Conduct thorough investigations of accidents, incidents, and near‑misses, and develop preventive measures.
  • Maintain and analyze HSE metrics and data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Coordinate emergency response and preparedness activities.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to address HSE concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with industry‑specific HSE regulations and standards.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in a related field.
  • Relevant experience can be considered a substitute for the required educational qualifications.
  • In the absence of a degree, a minimum of 6 years of related experience is required.
  • Higher‑level relevant degree may substitute for experience.
  • In‑depth knowledge of federal, state, and local HSE regulations.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge of occupational health & safety standards, EPA, OSHA, and NFPA regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct job hazard analysis, site audits, and incident root‑cause analysis.
  • Fluency with data capture, data analytics, spreadsheets, and presentations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP), and/or Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician (OHST) certification.
  • Advanced knowledge of HSE management systems.
  • Familiarity with or direct experience in implementing or maintaining ISO 45001 certification.
  • Subject‑matter expertise or certification in one or more of the following areas:
    • Radiation Safety (officer)
    • Laser Safety (officer)
    • Fall Protection
    • Lockout/Tagout
    • Electrical Safety (NFPA 70E)
    • MEWP & PIT program management
    • Thermography
    • Hazardous Material Transportation
    • Lithium‑Ion battery safety and storage
    • First Aid/CPR/AED Trainer
    • OSHA 500/501, OSHA 510/511
  • Master’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field.
  • Experience with DCMA INST 8210.
  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry.
Essential Functions
  • Conduct safety inspections and audits, which may involve walking, climbing, and standing for extended periods.
  • Lift up to 25 lbs regularly.
  • Work in various environments including office, manufacturing, and outdoor settings.
  • Work in a team and communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Travel as required.
  • Use computers and software applications related to HSE.
