Position: Quality Assurance Technician I

Quality Assurance Technician I

Job Overview:
This entry-level position is responsible for conducting routine QA testing and inspections to determine specification compliance of asphalt concrete and aggregate products. The role may involve rock plant or geology materials technician tasks and qualifies for a monthly truck allowance.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct various aggregate and aggregate-based material quality tests using sample testing procedures.
  • Organize testing results and prepare reporting information for Teichert Aggregate personnel.
  • Obtain samples from production facilities, including aggregate and asphalt plants.
  • Maintain regular communication with plant personnel and supervisor regarding material acceptability and test results.
  • Organize and clean the QA lab.
  • Communicate with inspectors about sample transfers when directed by the supervisor.
  • Deliver samples to locations as directed.
  • Monitor and assist the work of summer interns.
  • Promote a Zero Injury culture by adhering to all company safety policies and practices.
Education and Experience
  • High School diploma, G.E.D. or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
  • 0–2 years of work experience (industry experience not required).
  • Must obtain Caltrans JTCP Certification Agg I, HMA I or ACI Aggregate Testing Technician Level I within six months of employment.
  • Mathematical aptitude and ability to learn computer‑aided data analysis programs.
  • Basic computer software skills including Word, Excel, Outlook and Stonemont QC Software.
  • Willingness to learn and become proficient in aggregate testing and related technology.
  • Mechanical ability to maintain and repair plant equipment related to QA testing and processing.
  • Ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments and meet tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated teamwork and effective working relationships with all levels of customers, staff, and management.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Valid driver’s license in the state of residence and work, with an acceptable driving record.

Equipment, Physical Demands, and Work Environment
  • Use of computer monitor, keyboard, mouse and occasional driving to job sites, offices, or meeting locations.
  • Lift materials and equipment up to 50 lbs (up to 80 lbs for special projects such as breaking down geology samples).
  • Walk on uneven ground, climb, reach, bend, stand, or stoop as needed.
  • Use general tools for maintenance and repair of equipment; may be required to work outdoors for extended periods and at various shift levels.
  • Plant locations may contain dust, fumes, debris, medium to loud noise and extreme weather conditions such as heat, cold, or rain.
  • Handle hot material samples; travel may be required to other locations, site facilities, or seminars.
  • Lab testing environment may contain dust and medium to loud noise, with temperature variations; some locations may require ladder climbing or working at heights.
