Job Summary

A Carpenter constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures of wood, metal, wallboard, etc., using hand tools and power tools while conforming to local building codes and maintaining the required production and quality to meet customer expectations.

• Study blueprints, sketches, or building plans to determine material requirements and dimensions of structures or fixtures to be fabricated.
• Select specified types of materials and prepare layouts, marking cutting and assembly lines on materials with pencil, chalk, and marking gauge.
• Shape and assemble materials using hand and power tools, fastening them together with applicable fasteners.
• Verify trueness of structures constructed prior to completion.
• Apply shock‑absorbing, sound‑deadening, and decorative paneling to ceilings and walls.
• Fit and install prefabricated window frames, doors, door frames, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, and finish hardware such as locks, letter drops, and kick plates.
• Carry out all tasks safely and maintain a safe work environment.

• Climb and maintain balance on scaffolds and ladders.
• Reach for, handle, and manipulate objects and materials.
• Lift and carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
• Stooped, kneel, crouch, and crawl as needed.
• Have adequate vision, either naturally or with correction.
