About This Role

Fiber Tel is hiring entry‑level Telecom Construction Laborers. In this role you will support all phases of utility construction for telecom projects. Responsibilities include general labor duties directed by the Foreman/Supervisor.

Services may include placing poles, anchors, guys, aerial strand and cable, direct buried pipe, trenching cable, directional boring, installing underground conduit systems, performing inside wiring, cabling, testing, and maintenance services.

Pay: $24–26 per hour

Responsibilities
  • Hand dig using shovel or mechanical tools.
  • Install and maintain underground telecommunications cabling.
  • Operate or work around heavy equipment and machinery.
  • Work in congested or remote areas.
  • Maintain visual and audible contact with crew and all moving/stationary persons to ensure safe coordination.
  • Perform general construction work under direction of Foreman/Supervisor.
  • Maintain safe working habits/conditions per regulations, procedures, and policies.
  • Learn all aspects of crew work and assist operators and foreman as required.
  • Set up, prepare, and clean up construction sites.
  • Develop an understanding of buried utilities.
  • Lift heavy equipment and supplies (up to 75 lbs).
Qualifications
  • Must pass a pre‑employment drug screen and background check.
  • Valid driver’s license or eligibility to obtain one.
  • Good driving record.
  • Basic knowledge and safe operation of utility trucks and equipment.
  • Basic knowledge and safe use of hand tools.
  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License is a plus (higher wage scales apply).
  • Effective communication skills with customers and staff.
  • Willing and able to work in all weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous construction experience, preferably in telecommunications.
  • Ability to perform all duties in telecom construction.
  • Willingness to travel.
Working Conditions

This is a full‑time, hourly position, expected to work at least 40 hours per week. The position is outdoors and exposes workers to extreme cold, rain, sleet, snow, humidity, high temperatures, high wind, natural gas, electrical shock risk, and moderate to loud noise levels.

Physical Requirements

The employee must stand for long periods (up to 12 hours), lift 75 lbs, tolerate extreme weather, and meet vision requirements (close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, focus). Working safety instructions must be understood and followed.
