POSITION:
Cable Technician - Lead Technician
This role primarily involves the installation and decommissioning of network and cabling infrastructure within a Data Center environment. The individual provides leadership to crews, offers structured feedback on project progress to stakeholders, maintains high-quality workmanship and Data Center cleanliness, and adheres to all production, safety, and quality standards, codes, and industry best practices. The role requires collaboration with stakeholders to resolve project obstacles and the ability to read and comprehend blueprints and building documentation.
A broad understanding of Data Center infrastructure technologies is essential.
- Installation/decommissioning of network and cabling infrastructure in a Data Center environment.
- Deliver sustainable and repeatable solutions and processes, always with an eye on improvement.
- Provide structured feedback on project progress to stakeholders.
- Exhibit quality workmanship on all work and maintain Data Center cleanliness.
- Follow all production, safety and quality standards, codes, and industry best practices.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders to remove project obstacles.
- Read and comprehend blueprints and building documentation/redline work.
- Possess broad understanding of Data Center infrastructure technologies.
- Knowledge and use of basic telecom hand tools.
- Capable of leading a crew of 1-5 technicians.
- Understand customer service, perform job walks and communicate with customer for job requirements.
- Accept responsibility for outcome of work performed by them and by employees that directly report to them.
- Clear understanding of job safety requirements.
- Be able to read and understand job floor plan.
- Familiar with wiring schemes and wiring testing.
- Pull all types of low voltage cables.
- Perform field terminations and labeling.
- Maintain orderly paperwork; capable of running midsize to large projects and service jobs.
- Skill to layout MDF and IDF closets, dress all types of cable, perform terminations; basic understanding of fiber equipment, all types of cable and fiber terminations.
- Basic understanding of both copper and fiber cable testing and troubleshooting.
- Capable of working in Data Centers.
- Work on analog, DSL, and extend T1 lines.
- Patch network equipment.
- Track and submit timesheets for crew reporting.
- Perform job walks.
- Maintaining paperwork and running service jobs.
- Copper/Fiber term, test, splice, troubleshoot.
- Responsible for outcome of work.
- Effectively communicate with Foreman, Leads, Tech.
- Understanding metrics/SLA's and ability to track.
- Knowledge and understanding of network Handover.
- Track lessons learned as they occur.
- Coordinate with QAQC on quality status walks.
- Knowledge and understanding of Project Close Out.
- Identify the tech's strengths and weaknesses.
