GENERAL

SUMMARY:

The Driver Helper, a full-time position, works under the supervision of the Transportation Manager and is responsible for assisting the Driver with loading and unloading trucks and trailers as needed.

• Assist with the loading and unloading of all donated goods, ensuring proper sorting and placement of materials into designated containers.
• Assist in loading and unloading of all trucks and trailers with processed goods and materials for store shipments, salvage and trash runs.
• Assist drivers with navigation and observation of potential hazards.
• Ensure compliance with all Goodwill Industries® Sacramento Valley Northern Nevada policies, CARF standards, and safety and security regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must pass drug and background screening.
• Must function collaboratively within a team environment yet remain independently resourceful.
• Must have excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to work a flexible work schedule, including weekends and holidays.
• Knowledge of material handling equipment, with the aptitude to learn to operate pallet jack and hand trucks.
• Forklift experience is a plus.
• Must provide proof of identification and eligibility to work in the United States of America.
• Must have the ability to work productively with minimal supervision.
• Must provide and maintain a valid Driver's License.
• Must be insurable on company's automobile policy.
• Must have access to reliable transportation that does not interfere with performing the essential functions of the job description, cause tardiness, or unexcused absences.
• Must not present a direct threat to the safety and health of self, others or property.
• No record or disclosure of criminal conviction that indicates a tendency toward theft, violence, dishonesty, deceit, drug manufacture or sale, moral turpitude, or predatory behavior.

This position is a full time, non-exempt position eligible for Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance; 403(b) retirement plan;
Paid Holidays, Vacation and Sick Leave. This position is employed by Goodwill Industries® of Sacramento Valley and Northern Nevada, Inc.

• Limited hazards due to lifting, pushing, and pulling merchandise.
• Field of work includes loading and unloading trucks, working in and around docks, retail stores and storage centers.
• Work environment usually fast paced.

The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Frequent standing, walking, sitting, use of hands and fingers, handling or feeling objects, reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and speaking or hearing are required.
