We are seeking an Application Engineer to support our Automotive business unit within the Customer Solution Center. This role supports technical application testing for products manufactured at the tesa Sparta plant and partners closely with Sales, Business, and Product Development to provide technical expertise to customers. We support OEMs and Tier suppliers with pressure-sensitive adhesive tape solutions for demanding vehicle applications (e.g., interior & exterior mounting, wire harnessing, NVH/foam applications, battery & e-mobility assembly support, protection and masking).
Our adhesive tape application engineers consult customers with their individual requirements and help identify the best tape solution for their application processes.
- Provide technical support to the tesa sales force and our automotive customers (OEMs, Tier suppliers, converters) in close cooperation with Business and Product Development.
- Plan and execute application-focused lab testing (e.g., peel/shear, temperature & humidity exposure, substrate compatibility, process simulation, benchmarking vs. competitor solutions).
- Support product development by translating customer needs into test plans, requirements, and application validation.
- Drive co-development projects with selected key customers leading to new products or new applications.
- Conduct internal and external trainings (product trainings, tech days), and support trade fairs and customer events.
- Analyze competitive solutions and automotive market trends to identify opportunities and gaps.
- Perform customer visits within the USA to support trials, troubleshooting, and implementation on customer lines.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an Engineering or Science discipline.
- 2-3 years of experience in engineering or manufacturing (automotive and/or product development preferred).
- Strong analytical and process-oriented thinking with a systematic approach and high technical aptitude.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams (Sales, PD, Operations, Quality, customers).
- Willingness to travel by auto/air approximately 10-20% of the time.
