Math Teacher Grade 6 Sparta Elementary School position start date 8/10/2026 school year beginning 26/27

REPORTS TO: Principal

SUPERVISES: May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants.

PURPOSE: To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.

Responsibilities
  • A.
    MAJOR FUNCTION: Management of Instructional Time – The teacher has materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson ready at the start of the lesson or instructional activity; gets the class started quickly; gets students on task quickly at the beginning of each lesson; maintains a high level of student time‑on‑task.
  • B.
    MAJOR FUNCTION: Management of Student Behavior – The teacher has established a set of rules and procedures that govern routine administrative matters, student verbal participation, talk during activities, movement in the classroom, and transitions; frequently monitors behavior and stops inappropriate behavior promptly and consistently while maintaining student dignity.
  • C.
    MAJOR FUNCTION: Instructional Presentation – The teacher begins the lesson with a review, introduces objectives, speaks fluently and precisely, presents concepts in understandable language, provides examples, assigns tasks that students meet successfully, asks appropriate questions, conducts lessons at a sensible pace, manages transitions smoothly, and summarizes key points.
  • D.
    MAJOR FUNCTION: Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance – Maintains clear work standards, circulates during class work to check performance, uses oral, written, and other products to monitor progress, asks questions clearly.
  • E.
    MAJOR FUNCTION: Instructional Feedback – Provides feedback on in‑class work to encourage growth, gives prompt feedback on out‑of‑class work, affirms correct responses, probes or repeats questions after incorrect responses.
  • F.
    MAJOR FUNCTION: Facilitating Instruction – Has an instructional plan compatible with school and system goals; uses diagnostic information to develop objectives; maintains accurate records; adopts appropriate strategies and resources to support instruction.
  • G.
    MAJOR FUNCTION: Interacting Within the Educational Environment – Treats all students fairly and equitably; interacts effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and community.
  • H.
    MAJOR FUNCTION: Performing Non‑Instructional Duties – Carries out non‑instructional duties as assigned, adheres to laws and policies, follows professional development plans and demonstrates growth.
  • Additional Job Functions – Performs other related work as required.
Minimum Training and Experience

Degree in education or in a related area that will qualify for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools; must be able to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects; consistent with Light Work.
  • Data Conception: Ability to compare and judge characteristics of data, people or things.
  • Interpersonal Communication: Ability to speak or signal to convey information; receive instructions and directions.
  • Language Ability: Ability to read and prepare correspondence, simple reports, forms and instructional materials in prescribed format.
