Medical Technologist & Lab Technician
Overview
This position has required flexibility to work in all laboratory departments, different shifts, weekends and holidays and in adverse weather conditions.
This position works under the general supervision of Laboratory Manager, performs all laboratory procedures in a prompt, accurate, and reliable manner according to established hospital and departmental policies. Participates in Process Improvement and Laboratory Quality Control practices. Communicates with physicians and interdisciplinary clinical co-workers. Maintains regulatory agency requirements and follows laboratory and hospital policies, procedures, and standards as pertinent to scope of practice and hospital role.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Formal Training: Associate or Bachelor of Science Degree in medical technology or related science
Licensure/CertificationLicensure/Certification:
- MLT (AMT), MLT/MLS (ASCP), MLT (ASCLS), or MLT (NCA). BLS not required.
- OR
- MT (AMT), MT/CLS (ASCP), MT (ASCLS), or MT (NCA). BLS not required.
Work Experience: Previous clinical laboratory experience preferred but not required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities RequiredKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Required:
Demonstrates a high level of mental and emotional tolerance and even temperament when dealing customers and co-workers. Actively functions as a patient advocate. Must have general knowledge of laboratory equipment, phlebotomy, basic computer knowledge, and current hospital emergency policies and procedures. Excellent communication skills are necessary.
