The CNC Lathe Machinist is responsible for programming, setting up, and operating CNC lathes to manufacture high-quality tooling and precision components for a plastics manufacturing plant. This position requires advanced machining knowledge, independent problem‑solving skills, and the ability to develop and optimize CNC programs. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Haas and Doosan CNC lathes, CNC milling operations, and EZ-CAM programming software.
EssentialDuties And Responsibilities
- Program, set up, and operate Haas and Doosan CNC lathes to produce high precision-machined mold tooling and die components.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
- Develop, edit, and optimize CNC machining programs to improve efficiency and quality.
- Perform machine setups, tool changes, and make necessary program adjustments.
- Operate Haas CNC milling equipment as needed to support tooling and production requirements.
- Utilize EZ-CAM software to create and modify CNC programs.
- Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments to ensure compliance with tolerance specifications.
- Troubleshoot machining issues and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime.
- Maintain equipment and work area in accordance with safety, housekeeping, and preventive maintenance standards.
- Collaborate with Tool Room, Maintenance, Engineering, and Production teams to support manufacturing objectives.
- Follow all company safety policies, requirements and procedures.
- Keep work areas clean and organized to maintain a safe work environment.
- Ability to work overtime or fill absences as needed based on the needs of the business.
- Ability to work assigned shift.
- Reasonable mandatory overtime may be required due to business needs.
Required
- Minimum of 6 years of dedicated experience programming and operating CNC lathes.
- Advanced experience with Haas and Doosan CNC lathes.
- Ability to independently program, set up, and operate CNC equipment.
- Strong understanding of machining principles, tooling, feeds and speeds, and GD&T.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency using precision measuring instruments including micrometers, sine plates, calipers, and gauges.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Experience operating Haas CNC mills.
- Prior experience programming with EZ-CAM software.
- Prior experience programming lathe for live tooling operations.
- Experience in a manufacturing, tooling, or production environment.
- Technical certification in Machining Technology or related field.
- CNC programming and machine setup expertise.
- Blueprint reading and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Continuous improvement mindset focused on safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud and the use of PPE (ear plugs) is required.
Physical Requirements- Ability to perform standing job for 8 to 12 consecutive hours (depending on shift length).
- Frequently lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Remain stationery for extended periods of time.
- Move around Tool Room floor.
- Ability to bend, reach, twist, and work around moving mechanical equipment.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
