Description

The City of Spartanburg has opportunities for six (6) internships in the following departments for the months of June and July 2026.
Examples of Duties
  • Spartanburg Downtown Memorial Airport - is the City's largest-owned asset and is located in the southwest section of the City off Ammons Road. Staffed by eight full-time employees and one part-time employee, the airport serves over 100 local aircraft and 5,000 general aviation airports throughout the U.S., as well as corporate jets representing many of Spartanburg's largest companies.

    Airport staff is responsible for the safe and efficient operations of the airport. Collectively, they provide oversight to all limited fixed-based operators engaged in flight instruction, aircraft rental, sales, and aircraft charter.
  • Fleet Maintenance - Duties to include: assisting the Parts Specialist with inventory and ordering supplies and putting up stock.
  • Parks, Recreation and Special Events - Assists staff with setting up special events and recreational activities and programs. Special assignments working in our parks and trails.
  • City Manager's Office - Assist in developing events and programs to increase office sustainability and culture. Gather and organize related data. File and organize documents and data. Observe in court and council sessions.
  • Neighborhood Services - shadow opportunities:
    • Owner Repairs / Disaster Assistance Program:
      Help Neighborhood Services Staff with Owner-occupied repair programs. Visit sites and document conditions of property.
    • Code Enforcement:
      Learn the code enforcement process and how municipal ordinances are developed and enforced.
    • Assist the administrative team with projects.
  • A Place to Call Home - Will support A Place to Call Home's outreach, storytelling, and engagement efforts by helping communicate their mission, programs, and impact to the community. This role offers hands-on experience in nonprofit communications, volunteer engagement, and housing and homelessness systems, with opportunities to shadow staff across multiple functions.
Typical Qualifications

The pay is $12 per hour and will work approximately 15 hours per week Monday through Friday.
