The Safety Specialist serves as an experienced onsite safety professional responsible for supporting the effective implementation and continuous improvement of the company’s safety programs, policies, procedures, and project-specific safety requirements. Working closely with field employees, project leadership, customers, and the Safety & Training team, this role provides technical safety expertise, evaluates workplace hazards and risk, conducts safety audits and assessments, supports incident investigations, develops corrective and preventive recommendations, and provides guidance regarding applicable safety requirements.

The Safety Specialist exercises independent professional judgment in evaluating safety conditions, identifying risk, and recommending practical solutions that support safe and compliant project execution. This position also provides technical coaching and training to employees and project teams and serves as a safety resource for more complex field conditions and compliance matters.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive job site safety audits, inspections, and assessments to evaluate compliance with company policies and procedures, applicable regulatory requirements, project-specific requirements, and customer or general contractor requirements
  • Identify and evaluate workplace hazards and operational risks and recommend appropriate controls, corrective actions, and preventive measures
  • Provide technical safety guidance to field employees and project leadership regarding safe work practices, hazard controls, company requirements, and applicable safety standards
  • Evaluate significant, recurring, or complex safety concerns escalated from field employees or Safety Coordinators and recommend appropriate resolution
  • Review job hazard analyses, pre-task plans, and other hazard-control documentation and provide recommendations based on project conditions and identified risk
  • Participate in and support workplace incident, injury, near-miss, property damage, vehicle, and equipment investigations, including fact gathering, causal analysis, documentation, and development of corrective and preventive recommendations
  • Monitor corrective and preventive actions resulting from audits, inspections, investigations, observations, or identified hazards and evaluate their effectiveness
  • Analyze safety observations, incidents, inspection findings, and other available safety information to identify trends, recurring hazards, and opportunities for improvement
  • Interpret and apply applicable OSHA requirements, company safety requirements, and project-specific safety standards within assigned areas of responsibility
  • Support regulatory, customer, and general contractor safety inspections and assist with responses to identified findings or compliance concerns
  • Develop and deliver technical and project-specific safety training, toolbox talks, and other safety education based on identified hazards, trends, project needs, and established company programs
  • Provide safety coaching and technical support to employees, Safety Coordinators, supervisors, and project leadership
  • Support new hire and project-specific safety orientation and evaluate opportunities to strengthen safety education and field application
  • Review safety documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with established requirements and assist with maintaining required records
  • Support OSHA recordkeeping and other required safety documentation and reporting activities within assigned areas of responsibility
  • Evaluate field compliance with personal protective equipment, vehicle, powered equipment, and other established company safety requirements and recommend corrective action when deficiencies are identified
  • Support the implementation of company drug-free and alcohol-free workplace requirements by following established procedures and coordinating or escalating concerns as appropriate
  • Partner with project leadership to integrate safety considerations into work planning, execution, and changing project conditions
  • Participate in project and company safety meetings and communicate safety trends, findings, recommendations, and lessons learned
  • Serve as a technical safety resource during customer and general contractor interactions and represent the Safety & Training function on assigned safety matters
