To implement the district's comprehensive counseling program for secondary students ; to consult with and assist teachers , parents , and staff to enhance their effectiveness in helping students ; to protect the confidentiality of student records ; and to provide appropriate support to secondary educational programs .
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Guidance CurriculumSupervises students and other activities as directed by the building principal.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTSTo perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCECertificate in Guidance Counseling, Masters Degree in Secondary Guidance Counseling, and three years of classroom experience. Must be able to effectively deal with the public and staff both in person and on the phone.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSSouth Carolina Teaching certificate in Secondary School Counselor
LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups or managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITYAbility to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
