One of our clients, a well-established and growing manufacturing company, is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineering Manager to join their leadership team. Based in Greenville, SC, the company is known for its commitment to operational excellence, quality manufacturing, and continuous improvement. They take pride in building strong supplier partnerships and maintaining efficient, reliable production operations.
The Manufacturing Engineering Manager leads the Manufacturing Engineering function with combined Process Engineering responsibilities. This role is accountable for the technical execution and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes, tooling/fixtures (including weld fixtures), and production documentation including BOMs, routings, and manufacturing shop drawings. The position provides hands‑on shop‑floor leadership, drives Lean/CI initiatives, improves equipment reliability in partnership with Maintenance, and ensures robust DFM/DFA collaboration with Product/Design Engineering to support scalable, repeatable, and cost‑effective manufacturing.
Leadership& People Management
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of about 15 Manufacturing/Process Engineers and technical support roles.
- Establish team standard work, technical training plans, project discipline, and escalation paths to support production.
- Set annual objectives and track performance against department KPIs aligned to SQDC.
- Own and maintain BOMs, routings, and manufacturing shop drawings to ensure accuracy and alignment with production reality.
- Manage change control (ECR/ECN) and ensure revision discipline across documentation and ERP.
- Conduct periodic audits for routing clarity, labor standards assumptions, and BOM integrity in AS400.
- Lead DFM/DFA reviews and partner with Design Engineering to:
- Reduce part count and assembly complexity; drive standardization/modularity
- Align GD&T/datums/tolerances to process capability and inspection feasibility
- Improve weld access, sequence, fixturing strategy, and distortion robustness
- Improve assembly ergonomics, mistake‑proofing, and serviceability
- Translate DFM/DFA outcomes into actionable design changes, tooling needs, and process controls.
- Provide daily shop‑floor engineering support, prioritizing safety, quality containment, and throughput recovery.
- Lead structured problem solving using A3/8D, 5‑Why, fishbone, and Pareto analysis.
- Ensure corrective actions are implemented, verified for effectiveness, and sustained through standardization.
- Champion Lean tools and behaviors: 5S, Kaizen, SMED, VSM, standard work, visual management.
- Build and manage a CI project pipeline with measurable results in cost, throughput, WIP, and quality.
- Sustain improvements through layered audits, leader standard work, and documentation control.
- Lead design/specification, build, validation, and implementation of:
- Production tooling and fixtures (assembly fixtures, check fixtures/gauges, jigs)
- Weld fixtures emphasizing datum strategy, clamping/locating, distortion control, and ergonomic/safety considerations
- Manage vendor relationships for tooling fabrication including RFQs, technical specifications, build schedules, buy‑off, and commissioning.
Own process development, documentation, control, and optimization across:
- Manual welding & robotic welding (process parameters, sequence, distortion control, accessibility, repeatability, inspection strategy)
- Roll forming and press brake forming (tooling selection, setup control, spring back/tolerance management)
- Laser cutting (cut quality requirements, burr/dross control, nesting impacts)
- Punching and stamping (die condition, burr management, flatness, handling)
- Machining (work holding strategy, tool life/cycle time improvements, capability)
- Paint and powder coating (pretreatment, cure controls, film thickness, adhesion, racking/handling, defect reduction)
