Specialty Mechanical Equipment Engineer

• Support Amentum Nuclear Projects – Oak Ridge Group
• Design and support specialty mechanical equipment and machinery
• Manage scope, schedule, and budget for individual projects
• Follow established quality procedures for all controlled work
• Apply ISO 9000 or NQA-1 quality-system practices
• Design machines and select machine elements such as bearings and seals
• Develop and work with hydraulic and electrical machine controls
• Mentor specialty mechanical engineers and designers
• Communicate complex technical ideas to management and clients
• Create and review complex mechanical calculations
• Use SOLIDWORKS, Creo, ANSYS, CAD/CAE, and Microsoft Office software
• Travel occasionally or as needed
• Work near construction equipment, hazardous machinery, uneven ground, dust, fumes, noise, temperature or humidity extremes, and at heights when required

• 15 or more years of experience
• B.S. Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering school
• Knowledge and experience with specialized mechanical equipment
• Experience managing scope, schedule, and budget of individual projects
• Ability to follow Amentum’s established quality procedures
• Experience working within a quality system based on ISO 9000 or NQA-1
• Knowledge of machine design, machine-element selection, and machine controls
• Ability to mentor specialty mechanical engineers and designers
• Ability to communicate complex ideas to management and clients
• Experience creating and reviewing complex mechanical calculations
  
  Competence using SOLIDWORKS, Creo, ANSYS, and other CAD/CAE software
• Competence using Microsoft Office software
• U.S. citizenship required
• Valid driver’s license required
• Ability to work in a team atmosphere
• Must pass a pre-employment drug and background check
• Ability to work in the Oak Ridge office is required
• Master’s degree is a plus
• DOE Q clearance preferred but not required
• Must be able to reside within a commutable distance of the Oak Ridge, TN office

Demonstrates extensive experience in managing mechanical projects, including scope, schedule, and budget, while adhering to ISO 9000 or NQA-1 quality standards. Proficient in machine design, machine-element selection, and mentoring engineers in a collaborative environment.
