The South Carolina Governor's School for Science & Mathematics (GSSM) seeks an experienced and dedicated professional as a full‑time Director of Business Operations.

Under the limited supervision of the Vice President for Finance and Operations, the Director of Business Operations serves as the leader of the Business Operations team and provides managerial oversight of the institution's budgeting and procurement processes through the implementation of institutional policies and procedures. This position is focused on streamlining the institution's business operations, ensuring excellent customer service, and maintaining compliance with institutional policies and procedures, as well as state laws and regulations.

The Director of Business Operations also prepares monthly budget statements for the institution’s departments and programs, coordinates the financial aid program, and performs all accounting duties.

Key responsibilities of the Director of Business Operations
  • Department Budget Reporting and Fund Management: Responsible for preparing timely and accurate monthly budget reports for managerial review by the Vice President of Finance and Operations and departmental budget managers. Provides excellent customer service to internal stakeholders by supplying accurate and timely information and answering budget‑related questions; schedules quarterly budget meetings; assists with state‑mandated reports; performs all journal entries and other accounting functions.
  • Composite Reservoir and Other Revenue Accounting: Performs the bookkeeping functions of the institution’s Composite Reservoir account and the state deposit account, oversees funds collected for deposits (outreach, interim, meal fees, fines, or other fees), completes the annual Bank Account Transparency and Accountability Report, provides regular revenue collection reports, ensures timely and appropriate fund transfers, and answers stakeholder questions.
  • Procurement and Accounts Payable Management: Manages the institution’s Business Manager (and fills in as needed); enters payment requests, tracks status, monitors purchase orders, manages contracts to ensure compliance with the South Carolina Consolidated Procurement Code, develops procurement plans to meet needs and maximize cost savings, prepares solicitations, leads internal procurement review committees, and monitors vendor performance.
  • Financial Aid Coordination: Coordinates the institution’s financial aid policies and procedures, works closely with other departments to streamline the financial aid application process, holds meetings to assess student financial needs, transitions the application to a unified virtual system, communicates student needs, and works with the Foundation to find solutions for students with demonstrated financial need.
  • Other Duties: Participates at a high‑level on institutional committees and performs other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Finance and Operations.
Minimum Requirements

A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business and professional experience in related areas, such as accounting, auditing, or finance.
