Job Requirements

We are hiring a Registered Nurse to join our Recovery Room team at Cherokee Medical Center.

Responsibilities
  • Under general supervision, demonstrates thorough knowledge of therapeutic perioperative patient care, patient advocacy, clinical pathways/care maps, team dynamics, hospital systems, and serves as a resource for the registered nurse and support staff.
  • Reports to the Perioperative Department Manager and to the Director of Perioperative Services.
  • Collaborates with leadership in developing and implementing Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System culture, Vision, Mission, and goals.
  • Ensure readiness for emergencies during scheduled work hours and on-call hours to promote optimal patient outcomes.
  • Accepts constructive feedback to improve job performance and collaborates with Manager, Assistant Manager, CUE and/or Charge Nurse to maintain a positive team environment.
  • Administers and evaluates pharmacological and other therapeutic treatment regimens within licensure and institutional policy.
  • Assesses patients’ medical history, admitting diagnosis, physician’s orders, diagnostic data, and interviews patient and family to determine patient needs and prioritize nursing interventions.
  • Ensures continuity of care through effective decision making and quality patient care.
  • Attends staff meetings and remains knowledgeable in department updates and practices.
  • Collaborates with surgeons, anesthesia, and other members of the multidisciplinary health care team to ensure efficient perioperative throughput and enhanced outcomes.
  • Collaborates with patients, families, and other health care team members to assess and determine patient priorities and treatments.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of infection prevention strategies to prevent surgical site infections.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of professional nursing practice and theory.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of standard and transmission-based precautions to reduce cross-contamination using appropriate disinfectant per environment.
  • Documents aspects of patient care and progress or changes in condition.
  • Forms a plan for professional growth and identifies appropriate standards of care or clinical pathways to support the plan of care.
  • Participates in continuing education and maintains certifications as required.
  • Participates in data collection for quality improvement to improve patient outcomes.
  • Participates in the timeout process to verify patient identity, procedure, and surgical site; participates in debriefing to confirm procedure details and opportunities for improvement.
  • Provides clinical guidance to students, residents, and ancillary staff.
  • Supports Level 1 Trauma Center designation.
  • Provides health education and procedural teaching to patients and significant others.
  • Maintains hand hygiene and appropriate hand hygiene techniques.
  • Demonstrates competency for new equipment and procedures.
  • Applies principles of equity and fairness to assist patients in receiving unbiased treatment and resources aligned to patient needs.
  • Meets continuing education requirements and demonstrates knowledge of and compliance with clinical expectations of regulatory agencies (DNV, DHEC, CMS).
  • Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability by performing other duties as assigned.
  • Ensures compliance with clinical expectations regarding regulatory requirements such as ED to OR patient throughput, on-time starts, and reduction in surgical site infections.
Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) RN Specific Responsibilities
  • Possesses knowledge of peri-operative and post-operative care, including dynamic drug therapies for pain management and competency in documentation, assessment, and monitoring.
  • Follows current guidelines and care methodologies including ERAS.
  • Assesses patient condition and care needs and implements a plan of care to meet needs, reduce and control pain, and provide expected outcomes.
  • Provides quality patient care in accordance with ASPAN standards.
  • Provides health education, procedural teaching and discharge education to patients and significant others.
