Position SummaryThe Acute Care Registered Nurse (RN) provides inpatient nursing care to critically ill adult patients in compliance with the South Carolina Nurse Practice Act and the organization’s protocols, policies, procedures, and guidelines. The RN demonstrates clinical competency utilizing evidence‑based practices in all areas of the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and outcomes. The RN demonstrates thorough knowledge of therapeutic patient care, patient advocacy, clinical pathways/care maps, and team dynamics.
The RN collaborates with leadership to support the Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System’s culture, mission, vision, and values and encourages community engagement.
- Unit: PV 5 Adult Critical Care (Trauma/Surgical/Neuro ICU)
- Patient / Nurse Ratio: 1:1 or 1:2 depending on acuity
- Bed Capacity: 22
- Case Types: TBI, spinal cord injury, complex surgical patients, multi‑trauma, sepsis, etc.
- Education: Graduate of an approved/accredited School of Nursing
- Experience: Novice to expert RN (3+ years ICU experience required)
- License/Registration/
Certifications:
Current RN licensure in the State of South Carolina or Compact State; BLS (may be obtained post‑hire)

- Basic computer skills and competency in electronic health records
- Document all aspects of patient care following established charting procedures
- Adhere to system‑required standards of behavior and proper chain of command
- Meet continuing education requirements and comply with regulatory agencies (DNV, DHEC, CMS)
- Effectively communicate with patients, families, providers, and hospital associates
- Respond to facility alerts, medical alerts, and medical emergency systems
- Develop, implement, evaluate, and revise plans of care based on physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and educational needs of the patient/family
- Provide a safe patient care environment
- Collaborate with patients, families, and other health‑care team members to determine patient priorities and treatments
- Coordinate and direct patient teaching activities
- Initiate and facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration to enhance outcomes
- Seek necessary assistance to ensure positive patient outcomes
- Demonstrate competencies for new equipment, procedures, and annual competency validation
- Provide clinical guidance to students and ancillary staff
- Successfully complete hospital and unit‑based orientation programs and annual competencies
- Formulate a plan for personal professional growth
- Recommend development or revision of policies and procedures
- Serve on unit‑based committees and as assigned
- Prioritize nursing interventions for assigned patients
- Critically assess patient history, admitting diagnosis, physician orders, nursing history, physical assessment, and diagnostic data
- Adjust care based on severity of illness, injury, and needs
- Deliver quality patient care in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment
- Communicate professionally with patients from diverse backgrounds and varying educational levels
- Utilize nursing standards and protocols to manage emergent situations until provider response
