This is a full-time, non-tenure-track appointment in the Professor of Practice series. Black Hills State University is a teaching-focused institution located in Spearfish, South Dakota, in the scenic Black Hills region.

The College of Business is accredited by AACSB International — a distinction held by fewer than 6% of business schools worldwide — and serves approximately 400 students across campuses in Spearfish and Rapid City. The college offers undergraduate programs in Business Administration with specializations including accounting, agribusiness/ranch management, economics, finance, entrepreneurial studies, health services administration, human resource management, management, and marketing, as well as an MBA in applied management.

The successful candidate will join a collaborative, student-centered faculty committed to teaching excellence, applied scholarship, and community engagement. Our faculty combine scholarly engagement with commitment to student success, connect classroom instruction to professional practice, and involve students in applied or experiential learning. Effective communication, collaboration, and enthusiasm for student mentorship are central to our culture.

The successful candidate will serve as the instructional leader for the Entrepreneurial Studies specialization, a program that currently serves over 60 majors. Teaching responsibilities may include business administration courses in entrepreneurship and related areas at the undergraduate level, with possible opportunities to contribute to the MBA program as well. This role includes curriculum development, coordination of experiential learning opportunities, and engagement with the regional entrepreneurial and business community.

Duties and Expectations:

  • Teach entrepreneurship and related business courses at the undergraduate and graduate level.
  • The standard teaching load is nine courses annually (4–5), aligned with our mission as a teaching-focused institution. Opportunities for summer teaching may also be available.

  • Develop and maintain partnerships with regional entrepreneurship organizations, business development entities, and the broader business community.
  • Coordinate experiential learning opportunities such as pitch competitions, startup projects, and community-based ventures.
  • Maintain qualifications consistent with AACSB Instructional Practitioner, Practice Academic, or Scholarly Practitioner status through ongoing professional engagement.
  • Participate in student advising, mentoring, and recruitment activities.
  • Participate in service activities at the college and university levels.
  • Teach face-to-face, online, and at our extension campus in Rapid City.

Required Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:
