Adjunct Faculty – English as a Second Language (ESL)

Kean University in Union, New Jersey is inviting applications for adjunct faculty positions to teach ESL courses.

• Teach ESL reading, conversation, grammar, and writing courses ranging from novice to upper‑intermediate levels.
• Deliver courses in daytime and evening hours, primarily in‑person at the Union campus.
• Provide the required availability and office hours outside of the classroom as specified (one hour per week for 3‑4 credit classes, minimum 30 minutes per week for less than 3 credit classes, with additional availability for extra classes).
• Utilize Kean’s Learning Management System consistently with university guidelines.
• Assist students via virtual or in‑person support as needed.
• May be assigned to teach online courses for Kean Global.

• Master’s degree in a related field (or ABD, Ed.D., Ph.D., or an accepted disciplinary doctorate).
• Teaching experience in ESL or related disciplines, unless otherwise indicated.
• Proficiency in a Learning Management System.
• Demonstrated ability to meet availability requirements and maintain required office hours.

• Pay: $2,100 per credit effective September 2025; $2,225 per credit effective September 2026.
• Beginning in the 13th semester taught, an additional $75 per credit is earned.
• Enrollment in the state‑administered retirement plan when eligible.
• Potential eligibility for the Part‑Time State Health Benefits Program covering medical and prescription drug coverage.
• Office hour requirements are met, with discretionary availability for additional support.

Eligible sites include the Union campus and other New Jersey locations such as Kean Ocean (Toms River), Kean Skylands (Jefferson Township), Kean Jersey City, and Kean Brookdale (Middletown Township). Online instruction for Kean Global is possible.
