Overview

Sign-On Bonus $6,000 plus $500 per month housing allowance for 8 months for police officers. The City of Spearfish will pay 50% of the Sign-On Bonus no later than the first scheduled payroll date after the employee’s hire date with the remainder of the Sign-On Bonus paid on the first scheduled payroll date after the employee’s successful completion of the in-training period and requirements outlined in the position description.

• Enforce local, state, and federal laws, prevent and suppress crime and accidents, and promote public safety through community policing principles.
• Investigate criminal cases as assigned.
• This is a full-time position.

• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of South Dakota for the type of vehicle or equipment operated with a clean driving history.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain South Dakota Law Enforcement Certification. Preference will be given to candidates with certification.
• This position requires availability to work all shifts, weekends and holidays.
