Job DescriptionThe School Nurse provides comprehensive health services to support student wellness, safety, and academic success in accordance with Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) regulations, Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) requirements, and district policies.
Essential Responsibilities- Provide professional nursing care to students and staff.
- Assess and manage acute illnesses, injuries, and chronic health conditions.
- Develop and maintain Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs), Emergency Action Plans (EAPs), and other health-related accommodations.
- Administer medications and oversee delegated medication administration in accordance with Massachusetts regulations (105 CMR 210.000).
- Maintain confidential health records and required documentation.
- Conduct state-mandated health screenings and monitor immunization compliance.
- Provide emergency care and participate in school safety and emergency preparedness efforts.
- Collaborate with families, healthcare providers, community agencies, and school personnel to support student health needs.
- Participate in Student Support Teams, Section 504 Teams, and IEP Teams as appropriate.
- Promote health education, disease prevention, and student wellness.
- Monitor attendance patterns and identify health-related barriers to learning.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
- Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Massachusetts DESE School Nurse License preferred; candidates eligible for licensure are encouraged to apply.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Current CPR/AED certification required.
- Knowledge of Massachusetts school health regulations and practices preferred.
- Experience in pediatric, public health, community, or school nursing preferred.
- Ability to move throughout the school environment and respond to emergencies.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Regular attendance is an essential function of this position. In accordance with the Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School District collective bargaining agreement and district policies. Satisfactory CORi, SORi, and Fingerprinting are required.
