School Adjustment Counselor

Job Summary

Open:
Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School District, David Prouty High School. Position:
School Adjustment Counselor.

• Valid License/Certification in the area.
• Previous Experience in a School Adjustment Counselor role.
• Experience with students who have diverse behavioral needs.
• Ability to relate/communicate effectively with teachers, students, parents, and administrators.

• Provide individual and/or group short‑term counseling for students with social‑emotional issues.
• Serve as a liaison between families and the school to promote collaborative processes in educational planning.
• Provide psychosocial assessments and crisis intervention services for students, as needed.
• Collaborate with school staff to develop and implement therapeutic strategies to effect changes in social‑emotional‑behavioral interactions of students.
• Consult with parents/guardians, teachers, and staff on identified issues related to students’ needs, programming, discipline, and safety.
• Serve as liaison with community agencies and assist in fostering communication between schools, parents/guardians, and community leaders.
• Refer students and parents/guardians to appropriate community resources to address social‑emotional issues.
• Serve on school‑based committees to address educational issues, adjustment problems, safety issues, and program development.
• Provide staff consultation on social-emotional-behavioral issues affecting student participation in the learning process.
• Provide functional behavioral assessments (FBA) and participate in the IEP and 504 processes for students as needed.
• Conduct classroom presentations on specific social-emotional issues.
• Maintain required clinical records and conform to school and state regulations/guidelines on student records.
• Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.

Work involves student interaction and is performed primarily in an office or classroom setting.

Salary: $60,563 to $102,074 Per Year

• Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Psychology.
• Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed School Adjustment Counselor.
• At least two years of experience working in the School Adjustment Counseling role.
• Experience with social service agencies.
• Massachusetts licensure as a School Adjustment Counselor (K‑12).
• Experience consulting with social service agencies, community resources, and outside providers.
• Demonstrated experience supporting students with disabilities.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Satisfactory CORi, SORi, and Fingerprinting are required.
• Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
• At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred.
• Master’s degree preferred.
