About the State Auditor’s Office (SAO)The State Auditor’s Office serves the citizens of Washington by performing accounting, fiscal, and regulatory audits of state agencies, local governments, and other public entities.
About the RoleThe Assistant State Auditor 1 (ASA1) is the first level of an in‑training program designed for staff with minimal audit experience. The Office provides classes, on‑the‑job training, and work‑product review so new auditors can develop the skills needed to advance to the next level. Work is primarily performed in the field at the client’s location, with auditors working in teams.
Team SpokaneTeam Spokane, one of 17 local audit teams, conducts accountability, financial, and federal grant‑compliance audits for more than 100 local governments in Spokane, Stevens, Pend Oreille, Lincoln, and Adams counties. The team occasionally requires daily or overnight travel. It focuses on building positive client relationships and providing value‑adding recommendations.
Qualifications- Option 1:
Bachelor’s degree with at least three college‑level accounting courses. - Option 2: 4‑years of business or relevant experience, including a minimum of 1 year in accounting or auditing.
