DescriptionAs an Inspector, you will perform contract item inspections to ensure compliance with plans and specifications on all phases of construction projects.
Core Responsibilities- Conduct construction inspection on WADOT projects and monitor contract work for compliance with plans, specifications and contract documents.
- Establish and maintain documentation and report requirements based on construction plans and specifications.
- Interpret plans, specifications and contract documents to ensure compliance.
- Coordinate with the contractor and the project management to identify and resolve inspection issues.
- Ensure inspection compliance with safety rules and regulations.
- Enter daily work reports using the Department’s current software application for highway projects (ex. Site Manager, AASHTOWare).
- Document payments in both the Department’s current software application for highway projects (ex. Site Manager, AASHTOWare) and electronic source books.
- Field materials testing using nuclear density gauge, if needed.
- Concrete testing, if needed.
This position requires the operation of a company vehicle. All candidates must hold a valid driver’s license and will be subject to a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check. Employment is contingent upon meeting Horrocks' Fleet & Safety minimum requirements. Candidates will be asked to provide consent for the MVR check as part of the hiring process.
- 5–10 years of experience in transportation construction, construction inspection, materials testing, or a related field.
- Experience performing field materials testing, including soil, aggregate, asphalt, and concrete testing.
- Current materials testing certifications and hands‑on testing experience are highly preferred.
- WADOT TTCP certification required or ability to obtain.
- Experience with transportation‑related construction projects.
- Working knowledge of construction plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Basic computer skills, including proficiency with spreadsheets, word processing, and construction management software.
- Experience with AASHTOWare, Site Manager, or similar project documentation systems preferred.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining accurate project documentation.
- Strong communication and coordination skills for working with contractors, project managers, and agency personnel.
- Clean driving record.
- Willingness and ability to travel overnight as required.
- Dependable, detail‑oriented, and safety‑focused.
- Materials testing certifications in soils, aggregate, asphalt, and/or concrete.
- Ability to obtain and maintain inspection certifications required by WSDOT and ITD.
- Ability to obtain Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead (CESCL) certification.
- Commitment to pursuing additional certifications and training to support project delivery and provide technical redundancy within the team.
