Working collaboratively with project managers, subject matter experts (SMEs), scriptwriters, video producers, graphic designers, and Government stakeholders, the Technical Writer/Editor ensures all written products are evidence-based, technically accurate, grammatically sound, and consistent with the National Center for PTSD's mission of providing compassionate, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive educational resources. Written materials must maintain a serious yet hopeful tone that encourages treatment engagement while communicating complex behavioral health concepts in an understandable and engaging manner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and edit reports, articles, newsletters, brochures, pamphlets, guidebooks, training materials, fact sheets, reference materials, speeches, scripts, news releases, website content, and other communication products as required.
  • Translate scientific literature, clinical guidance, and technical information into plain language content suitable for public audiences.
  • Review written materials to ensure technical accuracy, consistency, readability, grammar, style, and compliance with approved clinical guidance.
  • Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), clinicians, researchers, project managers, and Government stakeholders to validate the accuracy and completeness of educational content.
  • Edit scripts and supporting production materials to ensure consistency with evidence-based practices and established messaging.
  • Apply Federal plain language principles and editorial standards to improve clarity, accessibility, and audience comprehension.
  • Ensure written products maintain a serious, compassionate, and hopeful tone while presenting information about trauma, PTSD, effective treatments, and co-occurring conditions.
  • Develop content that is trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and respectful of the diverse experiences of Veterans and other individuals affected by trauma.
  • Coordinate document review cycles and incorporate Government feedback while maintaining version control and editorial consistency.
  • Verify citations, references, terminology, and formatting for accuracy and consistency across all deliverables.
  • Ensure written materials comply with applicable accessibility requirements, organizational style guides, branding standards, and quality assurance procedures.
  • Support public awareness campaigns, including PTSD Awareness Month initiatives, by developing and editing educational and promotional communication materials.
