ADay in the Life of a Customer Service Representative
As a Customer Service Representative, you play an essential role in providing excellent customer service and driving sales for our company. You are the first point of contact customers have when they enter our store, and you assist them with any service requests while maintaining a friendly and positive attitude. When customers call, you answer the phone in a timely manner to provide responses to any questions or inquiries.
Your responsibilities include providing prices, checking item availability, processing orders, replenishing display items, conducting research to find solutions, recommending products, and ensuring efficient and expedient service. You also recognize opportunities for additional sales and perform all front‑counter procedures according to guidelines.
- Assist walk‑in/call‑in customers with routine requests in a friendly and positive manner
- Provide pricing and availability
- Identify, research, and resolve customer issues
- Process customer orders
- Pick orders for will‑call customers
- Assist in replenishing display items
- Assist in maintaining professional appearance of storefront
- Be a single solution source for customers
- Understand and utilize other departments
- Relay important company and industry information
- Recommend appropriate products to enhance customer experience
- Maintain customer relationships
- Manage incoming calls and customer service inquiries
- Identify and assess customer needs to achieve satisfaction
- Build sustainable relationships and trust with customer accounts through open and interactive communication
- Provide accurate, valid, and complete information by using suitable methods and tools
- Handle customer complaints, provide appropriate solutions and alternatives within the time limits, and follow up to ensure resolution
- Meet company performance standards and goals as defined by your manager
- Ensure customers receive efficient and expedient service
- Recognize and act on opportunities for additional sales
- Perform all front counter operations and procedures
- Must be able to pass certification of training on warehouse equipment where applicable (e.g., forklift, wave picker, pallet jack, etc.)
- Engage in continuous self‑training to expand product knowledge
- Back up warehouse duties as needed
- Maintain cleanliness of facilities
- Other duties as assigned by management
- Excellent communication skills required
- Customer‑oriented
- Phone skills that convey a pleasant, professional manner
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks
- Able to set appropriate priorities, respond to changes, and demonstrate flexibility in dealing with daily demands
- Strong interpersonal communication skills to support team effort and needs of organization
- Positive and upbeat attitude
- 1 year of prior customer service experience preferred
- Familiar with computer operation, including data entry experience with multiple screens
- Basic math skills required
- Minimum high school diploma or GED
- Bilingual a plus
- Must have regular, consistent, and predictable attendance
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to maintain significant activity levels for extended periods of time
- Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls
- Reach with hands and arms
- Climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Ability to communicate with supervisors, other employees, and customers
- Frequently required to remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods as well as walk short and long distances
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Desire to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Regularly repeat the same movements when entering data
Part‑time position. Monday through Friday, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm (closing time may vary between 4:00–4:30 pm). 27.5 hours a week. $18.00 per hour.
