Job Description Summary
The CHCI Chief Dental Officer (CDO) is the clinical, administrative, and visionary leader of one of the largest dental practices in Connecticut, located within a fully integrated primary care practice. The CDO oversees comprehensive dental care for patients of all ages, from newborns to elders, and manages dental services that include preventive, restorative, acute, prosthetic, and cosmetic dentistry.
Responsibilities- Act as a member of CHCI’s senior leadership team alongside the Chiefs of each clinical service.
- Develop and guide the strategic expansion of CHCI dental practices, evaluating new sites, services, and treatment modalities.
- Ensure the dental department aligns with organizational strategies to meet service, quality, satisfaction, revenue, and expense targets.
- Provide limited clinical practice within one site.
- Collaborate with other CHCI leaders to set and achieve clinical capacity and utilization targets, driving financial success.
- Lead the oral health component of the Joint Commission‑accredited, NCQA‑designated Patient‑Centered Medical Home, focusing on population health management, service integration, and patient engagement.
- Engage and direct peer review activity to uphold standards of care and evidence‑based treatment.
- Mentor staff in complex cases and treatment planning.
- Develop and mentor on‑site dental directors at local site leadership activities, providing development opportunities for emerging leaders.
- Create a “grand rounds” dental program for ongoing education and training.
- Contribute thought leadership in key CHC committees (Dental QI, Performance Improvement, Infection Control, etc.).
- Recruit, engage, and retain a committed staff of CHC dental providers and support staff.
- Collaborate with finance and administrative departments to optimize purchasing power and quality for dental equipment and laboratory services.
- Represent CHC at state and national forums and public-facing activities to enhance credibility and brand.
- Lead the development of a fully integrated electronic health record and new technologies, seizing opportunities for optimal practice.
- Serve as PI/co‑PI on private and public research or programmatic grants as appropriate.
- DDS or DMD degree from an accredited dental school.
- Mentally prepared to hold a state of Connecticut dental license.
- NERB or regional dental board certification.
- DEA (Federal and State) active licensure.
- MPH or MBA.
- Completed GPR or AEG.
- Expert clinical dentistry skills with a minimum of five years of experience.
- Demonstrated management and leadership expertise, including coaching on dental procedures and sterilization techniques.
