Overview
Spokane International Academy (SIA) is seeking a 1.0 FTE Non-Continuing Special Education Teacher to join our Special Education team for the second half of the 2025–26 school year (February–June 2026). This role serves students in Kindergarten through 7th grade and focuses on delivering high-quality, differentiated, and specially designed instruction in collaboration with the broader special education team.

Schedule to be determined based on student service needs and team structure - Reports to:
Director of Special Education / Building Administrator
- Collaborative Service Delivery — Serve as an active member of the Special Education team, collaborating closely with other special education teachers, instructional assistants, counselors, and administrators. Partner with general education teachers to support inclusive practices, differentiated instruction, and access to the general education curriculum. Participate in team meetings related to student progress, service delivery, and instructional planning.
- Specially Designed Instruction & Student Support — Provide specially designed instruction (SDI) to students with IEPs in small-group and individual settings, aligned to IEP goals and service minutes. Use assessment data, progress monitoring, and teacher input to inform instructional decisions and adjust support as needed. Support students across a range of learning needs, including academic, behavioral, and executive-functioning goals.
- IEP Implementation & Progress Monitoring — Implement components of IEPs with fidelity, including instructional accommodations, modifications, and SDI. Collect and maintain progress-monitoring data and share updates with the special education team. Support IEP meetings as assigned (e.g., reporting on progress, contributing instructional insights), in collaboration with the case manager.
- Behavioral & Social-Emotional Support — Support the implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and classroom-based behavioral strategies as designed by the team. Collaborate with counselors, administrators, and teachers to support student regulation and positive behavior. Use trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate, and strengths-based approaches with students.
- Compliance & Documentation — Adhere to all applicable federal and state special education regulations, including IDEA and WAC 392-172A. Maintain accurate service documentation and required records for assigned responsibilities. Follow SIA procedures related to confidentiality, compliance, and professional practice.
- Professional Collaboration & Growth — Communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues and families as appropriate. Participate in required professional development, team meetings, and training sessions during the contract period. Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness to student and school needs in a dynamic, growing school environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field
- Valid Washington State Special Education teaching certificate (K–12)
- Experience working with students with disabilities in an elementary and/or middle school setting
- Ability to deliver differentiated and individualized instruction in small-group and one-on-one settings
- Working knowledge of IEP implementation, progress monitoring, and inclusive practices
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Student-centered, patient, and growth-minded
- Committed to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices
- Organized, reliable, and able to work effectively as part of a team
- Flexible and adaptable, particularly in a part-time, mid-year role
- Master’s degree in Special Education or related field
- Experience supporting students across multiple grade levels
- Familiarity with behavioral supports, executive functioning strategies, or inclusion models
- Experience working in a charter or innovative school environment
