Position: TEACHER - ENERGY & POWER @ NEWTECH PREP, 1.0 FTE, CONT.
Description

Provide direct instruction to students on Energy and Power practices and technologies, emphasizing the integration of classroom learning with real-world industry practices. Develop, implement, and evaluate evidence-based strategies to expand work-based learning opportunities for students in the energy and power sector. Establish partnerships with local and regional energy and power companies to create internships, mentorship programs, and job shadowing opportunities that reflect in-demand workforce needs.

Use current state, regional, and local economic data to guide the development and refinement of curriculum. Align student training with specific in-demand skills and knowledge within the energy and power sector. Stay current with the latest research and best practices in work-based learning, particularly within the energy and power sector. Regularly evaluate and adjust strategies to improve student outcomes and program success.

* Required Washington State Endorsement(s):
Washington State CTE Teaching Certificate with VCODE #V460302, or ability to verify 6,000 hours of recent electrical industry experience.

Responsibilities

1. Organize instructional programs within the prescribed curriculum to provide for individual differences.

2. Be able to effectively teach students of varying abilities.

3. Be able to maintain classroom discipline and use effective classroom management skills.

4. Utilize and maintain district/building curricular and student learning objectives.

5. Prepare and maintain long-range and weekly lesson plans.

6. Maintain appropriate student records.

7. Work as an effective member of the department to evaluate and improve the program.

8. Communicate and interpret school programs to patrons.

9. Communicate student progress to parents.

10. Be familiar with state essential leanings, district targets, qualifying standards, testing, etc.

11. Work as an effective member of the grade level, staff, and community to evaluate and improve student learning.

12. Work with the local trades and apprenticeships including the related advisory committee, Skills Center administration, Skills Center staff, professional associations, and post-secondary institutions to develop and maintain integrated, relevant academic, employability, and technical student learning competencies for the Energy and Power Trades.

13. Stay current with technological advances in the construction trades industry, and maintain proficiency in all areas included in the program curriculum.

14. Work as an effective member of the Skills Center team to evaluate, market, and improve the assigned program.

15. Develop and maintain an effective program advisory committee.

16. Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by the building administration.

Qualifications

1. Qualifies for a Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements as required by law and regulations. If possessing an initial or provisional certificate, the candidate must hold the appropriate endorsement. Individuals transitioning from industry who pass a background check (fingerprints review by Washington State Police) can qualify for an initial Washington State Conditional teaching certificate upon being hired for this teaching position.

2. Demonstrates classroom management procedures that provide for large and small groups, and individuals, and provides an environment conducive to learning.

3. Uses appropriate disciplinary procedures, establishes clear parameters for student behavior, responds properly when problems occur, and helps students toward self-discipline.

4. Demonstrates ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both written and oral form.

5. Flexible in learning new concepts, cooperates with others, and adapts to a variety of assignments and conditions.

6. Enthusiastic and displays an overall optimism toward teaching and student learning.

7. Assesses needs of students, prescribes and implements effective lessons to meet students' needs through the use of appropriate and current instructional skills.
