SALARY SCHEDULE Responsibilities
  • Instruct students in all phases of an instrumental music program.
  • Effectively promote, instruct, and encourage student participation in instrumental music including concert, marching, jazz, and PEP bands as well as string orchestra.
  • Provide environment and program conducive to learning.
  • Promote district and school goals and objectives in music.
  • Work with other faculty and staff to improve program.
  • Assume supervisory responsibilities as assigned.
  • Maintain records and communicate progress to students and parents.
  • Schedule performances with the choral and orchestra directors and the principal or designee.
  • Effectively organize and maintain accurate inventory records of band uniforms, music equipment, and sheet music.
  • Willingness to conduct instrumental ensembles at concerts, festivals, and sporting events.
  • Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by the building administrator.
Qualifications
  • Qualify for a valid Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement as required by law and regulations.
  • Demonstrate effective large group classroom management procedures that provide for grouping, establish routines, and provide for an environment for learning.
  • Consistently manage discipline in a positive and effective manner.
  • Demonstrate clarity of expression by communicating effectively both in written and oral form.
  • Participate in change in a constructive way. Flexible in dealing with changing conditions.
  • Be enthusiastic and display an overall optimism toward teaching and learning.
  • Diagnose the student needs, prescribe, plan, implement effective lesson plans, and remain current in appropriate instructional skills.
  • Gain the respect and confidence of students, parents, and staff through the modeling of positive, enthusiastic, and appropriate behavior.
  • Set and attain goals with a commitment to accomplishment.
  • Develop appropriate relationships and interactions with students.
  • Possess a cumulative college GPA of at least 2.5. (This requirement may be waived if, for a specific position an inadequate pool of fully qualified applicants exist.)
  • Music background with emphasis in instrumental music, both band and orchestra.
  • Knowledge of marching band and jazz band instructional techniques.
  • Major in instrumental music or equivalent course work and experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of various teaching and learning styles as applicable to instrumental music.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse group of administration, students, and parents to develop a comprehensive instrumental music program in a confidential manner.
  • Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Interest and commitment to a diversified music curriculum.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to direct co-curricular activities.
  • Ability to interpret, translate, arrange, and compose music.
  • Willingness and commitment to participate in professional collaboration and student supervision.
