Position Summary

Whitworth University seeks a dedicated faculty member to join our Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) program as a tenured, open-rank professor. This role involves teaching graduate-level MFT courses while also providing leadership and oversight of clinical training components. The role includes supervising practicum and internship students and mentoring students throughout their academic journeys.

The position supports the academic mission through thesis committee service, participation on the MFT Advisory Board and admissions committee, and involvement with the counseling team. The role contributes to maintaining accreditation compliance, supports implementation of the program's assessment plan, assists with student recruitment, and represents the program at relevant professional meetings. Engagement in ongoing professional development, scholarship, and active participation in state, regional, and national professional associations is also expected.

Core Responsibilities
  • Serve as Clinical Director of the MFT Program, overseeing all aspects of clinical training, including off-campus placements, site partnerships, supervisor support, student evaluation and progress monitoring, and remediation when needed.
  • Manage operations of the Whitworth MFTC (Marriage and Family Therapy Center) and supervise student clinicians.
  • Teach graduate-level Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) courses and other graduate courses as assigned.
  • Organize, facilitate, and supervise practicum and internship experiences for MFT students.
  • Monitor students' academic and clinical progress and develop individualized student growth plans as needed.
  • Serve on the Marriage and Family Therapy Advisory Board and MFT admissions committee.
  • Assist in ensuring program compliance with accreditation standards.
  • Attend state and national meetings related to the MFT program as appropriate.
  • Maintain active involvement in professional and scholarly activities, including research and participation in state, regional, and national professional organizations
  • Work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff in the MFT and across disciplines.
Other Opportunities
Possibility of developing new courses. Additional responsibilities include participation in departmental activities and governance, professional and research activities, attending state, regional, and national professional association meetings, attending faculty assemblies, development days, and retreats, serving on committees, and advising.
Qualifications and Core Competencies
  • Earned Doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, Sociology, Counseling, or a closely related ?eld. (ABD candidates with an anticipated graduation date before July 2026 will be considered).
  • Licensure (of license eligible) as a Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Washington.
  • A minimum of five years of experience as an MFT.
  • A personal commitment to the Christian faith and to the integration of faith and learning.
  • A commitment to the educational mission of Whitworth as a Christian liberal arts university affiliated with the Presbyterian church.
  • Clinical Fellow status with the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), and Approved Supervisor status with AAMFT (supervisor candidates will be considered).
  • Familiarity with COAMFTE's accreditation standards and policies is desirable.
  • University-level teaching experience is desirable.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record keeping
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and successful experience working within university graduate programs.

Salary Information
Assistant/Associate Professor, Marriage and Family Therapy
Term: 11.5 months (academic year + 2.5 month summer)
Assistant Professor Salary: $76,120 - $85,074
Commensurate with years of credited service. 1.75% increase to the minimum salary is granted for each year of credited service at the rank of Assistant Professor.
Associate Professor salary: $83,732 - $93,582
Commensurate with years of credited service. 1.75% increase to the minimum salary is granted for each year of credited service at the rank of Associate Professor.
