Position Summary
The Department of Chemistry at Whitworth University invites applications for a Lecturer in Chemistry with a focus on teaching general chemistry lectures and laboratories. The successful candidate will primarily teach in the general chemistry curriculum, with additional assignments in lower-division laboratories or courses as departmental needs arise. The ability to teach organic chemistry labs is highly desirable, and opportunities may be available to teach upper-division biochemistry lectures or labs for qualified and interested applicants.
This position includes a teaching load of approximately 21 credit hours per academic year. In addition to teaching, we encourage you to participate in departmental meetings, collaborative activities, and faculty development opportunities that support student learning and reflect our university's mission.
The Chemistry department typically graduates 20-30 students with a chemistry major each year. Recent graduates have been accepted to excellent chemistry graduate schools (for example: Notre Dame, University of Washington, UC Berkeley, and Cal Tech), medical schools (for example: University of Washington, University of Pennsylvania, and Boston University), in addition to finding employment opportunities directly after graduation. Core Responsibilities
Primary teaching responsibilities include introductory chemistry and general chemistry lectures and labs; additional teaching assignments may include other lower-division laboratories and courses as needed; the ability to teach organic laboratories would be desirable. Upper-division biochemistry laboratory courses may be available to qualified and interested applicants. The anticipated annual teaching load is contingent on need but is anticipated to be 21 credit hours.

Qualifications and Core Competencies
- Master's or PhD in Chemistry or a closely related field. All sub-disciplines of chemistry are encouraged to apply.
- Evidence of promise in effectiveness at college-level teaching (demonstrated effectiveness preferred).
- A personal commitment to the Christian faith and to the integration of faith and learning
- Ability to adopt technology used in the department including course management systems, online homework systems and remote clicker response systems.
- A commitment to science education in a liberal arts setting and working with a broad student population to explore the nature of the scientific enterprise and the interaction between science and society.
- Commitment to providing an equitable, just, and inclusive learning environment for all students.
- A commitment to the educational mission of Whitworth University as a comprehensive Christian liberal arts university affiliated with the Presbyterian church.

This is a one-year lecturer contract. Contract will begin August 1, 2026, and will end on July 31, 2027.
