The job of summer school teacher, Center for Juvenile Detention Services, is to provide one‑on‑one and group instruction, maintain records of student progress, and manage classroom behavior in one or more of the following areas: language arts, math, history, science, and life/job skills. The summer school session runs from June 9, 2026 through August 5, 2026.
The salary is $175 per day and may increase depending on the number of days worked.
Responsibilities- Instruct students individually or in groups to optimize development and enhance academic skills.
- Maintain security measures within the classroom to comply with detention center policies and enforce safety rules.
- Manage classroom behavior using behavior modifications and established discipline rules.
- Model respect, responsibility, and accountability to demonstrate positive behavior for students.
- Monitor students to evaluate their behavior daily and enforce security and safety rules.
- Work as a member of a team to provide consistency throughout the school with respect to student behavior management.
- Assist other personnel as required to ensure an efficient and effective work environment.
- Perform related duties as assigned, within the general occupational series and responsibility level typically associated with the classification of work.

- Having regular and reliable attendance
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require some lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling; significant fine finger dexterity; 35% sitting, 15% walking, 50% standing; performed in a generally hazard‑free environment.
ExperienceJob‑related experience is desired.
EducationBachelor's degree in a related field.
Certificates & LicensesWashington State Teaching Credential.
ClearancesState criminal history background clearance (WSP/FBI) at employee's expense.
Continuing Education/TrainingMust complete mandatory training provided by NEWESD 101.
