Job Purpose
To serve as instructors for our nationally recognized summer program. Instructors will work with high school students to develop their skills in competitive policy debate through engaging curriculum, lectures, practice rounds, and individualized coaching. This is an excellent opportunity for former debaters, coaches, or educators to contribute to the development of the next generation of debaters in a rigorous academic environment.
EssentialFunctions
- 50% - Instruction and lectures:
Deliver lectures on topic-related materials, policy debate theory, argumentation strategies, and other relevant content areas. - 20% - Lead a lab group of students, providing hands-on instructions and mentorship throughout the institute.
- 10% - Supervision: monitor and manage student behavior in lab and other institute activities, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment.
- 20% - Assist students in developing effective arguments, conducting research, case writing, and refining their public speaking and critical thinking skills.

Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Experience
Years Of Related Experience1 year
In lieu of the educational qualifications, candidates may qualify with equivalent professional experience at a ratio of one year of experience for each year of required education.
Skills & Abilities- Experience in competitive policy debate as a coach, instructor, or debater (college-level experience strongly preferred).
- Strong understanding of debate theory, research methods, and argument construction.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced educational setting.
- Prior experience teaching or mentoring high school students is highly desirable.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, and Word.
- Proficient in debate specific technologies such as Verbatim.
- Proficient in written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Demonstrated time management, punctuality, and priority setting skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Five or more years' experience in competitive policy debate as a coach, instructor, or debater (college level strongly preferred).
- Strong understanding of debate theory, research methods, and argument construction.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced educational setting.
- Prior experience teaching or mentoring high school students is highly desirable.
- In-Office Presence - Ability to work on-site in typical office setting and participate in in-person meetings with colleagues: 5 days/week
