Overview

Spokane Public Schools is seeking qualified candidates who are prepared and excited to provide a 21st century learning environment that effectively addresses the emerging necessity of social emotional supports and blending learning strategies.

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced educator to join our specialist team teaching Music to students Kindergarten through Eighth Grade at Ruben Trejo Dual Language Academy. As a dual language Spanish‑speaking school, proficiency in both English and Spanish is essential.

Qualifications
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish to teach in both languages.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching in a dual language or immersion program.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs.
  • Strong understanding of bilingual education principles and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with colleagues, students and parents.
  • Commitment to fostering a culturally responsive and inclusive learning environment.

    2026‑27 School Year
  • Benefits: Medical, dental, and vision through the SEBB program for employees working at least 630 hours per academic year. Additional benefits may include vacation, sick, personal days, and paid holidays.
  • Most positions have additional pay provisions above what is represented on the salary schedule, all in accordance with applicable collective bargaining agreements.
Position Requirements

Requires a Washington State Teaching Certificate with a Music Endorsement. The Professional Education Standards Board (PESB) provides additional endorsement requirement information through their site; PESB Course and Endorsement Lookup.

Salary

Salary depends upon applicable prior certificated experience, approved credits, earned degrees, and the FTE of the position. Current salary and stipend information is available from the district.

Responsibilities
  • Organize instructional programs within the prescribed curriculum to provide for individual differences.
  • Teach students of varying abilities.
  • Maintain classroom discipline and use effective classroom management skills.
  • Utilize and maintain district/building curricular and student learning objectives.
  • Prepare and maintain long‑range and weekly lesson plans.
  • Maintain appropriate student records.
  • Work as an effective member of the department to evaluate and improve the program.
  • Communicate and interpret school programs to patrons.
  • Communicate student progress to parents.
  • Be familiar with state essential leanings, district targets, qualifying standards, testing, etc.
  • Work as an effective member of the grade level, staff, and community to evaluate and improve student learning.
  • Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by the building administration.
  • Qualifications
  • Qualified for a Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements as required by law and regulations.
  • Demonstrates classroom management procedures that provide for large and small groups, and individuals, and provides an environment conducive to learning.
  • Uses appropriate disciplinary procedures, establishes clear parameters for student behavior, responds properly when problems occur, and helps students toward self‑discipline.
  • Demonstrates clear written and oral communication.
  • Flexible in learning new concepts, cooperates with others, and adapts to a variety of assignments and conditions.
  • Enthusiastic and displays overall optimism toward teaching and student learning.
  • Assesses needs of students, prescribes and implements effective lessons to meet students' needs through appropriate instructional skills.
  • Gains the respect and confidence of students, parents, and staff through modeling appropriate demeanor, behavior, and attire.
  • Sets and attains high levels of expectations and uses available resources to foster accomplishment and growth.
