School’s Out Washington (SOWA) is seeking an experienced Biliterate Content Specialist (Spanish) Independent Contractor. This contracted position requires fluency in English and Spanish, and skill in writing and communication with an audience that is diverse in levels of education, culture, and first language. This person will report directly to the Professional Learning Associate Director (PLAD) and work closely with the Training Content Manager to support the transcreation of the online self‑paced School Age Basics (SAB) curriculum from English to Spanish.

The scope of work includes conducting a quality assurance review of existing English‑to‑Spanish translated content to ensure accuracy, consistency, and cultural appropriateness. Upon this initial review of content, this position will work closely with the PLAD to facilitate an external workgroup review process. The external workgroup will consist of 3–5 members from the Youth Development field who will test functionality, accessibility, and overall quality and accuracy of the translated materials.

In addition, the Biliterate Content Specialist will manage the workflow for any additional translation, editing, and final production of the translated online self‑paced SAB.

Duties & Responsibilities

In support of this effort, the duties of the Biliterate Content Specialist IC will include, but are not limited to:

  • Review, edit, write, and as needed, develop Spanish‑language content for the School Age Basics training delivered in Genially and 360

    Learning platforms. Content formats may include print, web, digital, and other instructional materials.
  • Participate in the transcreation process to review translated material for alignment to specific audiences.
  • Review and modify translated evidence‑based research materials to ensure accessible language for Spanish‑speaking youth development, school age child care, and expanded learning professionals.
  • Translate evidence‑based research into culturally sustaining professional development material for youth development, school age child care, expanded learning professionals, and other users.
  • Minimal recording of video and/or voice‑over content (translated scripts provided).
  • Support completion of School Age Basics transcreation project and project manage on a regular basis.
  • Actively participate and facilitate a review and evaluation process, including peer review, to ensure creation of high‑quality and culturally sustaining content for online self‑paced School Age Basics.
  • Participate in meetings with project partners (both within School’s Out Washington and externally with project funders and stakeholders).
  • Regularly communicate goals, milestones, and project timelines with supervisor and project teams through required reporting and communication platforms.
Minimum Qualifications
  • At least 2 years of experience working in and/or supporting licensed school age child care programs in Washington State
  • Biliterate in English and Spanish and experience with writing, public‑speaking, and translating these languages
