Responsibilities
  • Lead school personnel in the assessment of student problems related to the learning process and/or school adjustment.
  • Conduct evaluations and serve as assessment coordinator. Conduct educational, diagnostic assessments and functional behavior assessments on individual students with disabilities or suspected of having disabilities. Write individual and summary reports of diagnostic assessments. Maintain appropriate written records and reports for each child served and/or assessed.
  • Identify those students with disabilities who meet state and federal education guidelines for special education services for students with disabilities as defined by WAC 392-172A and properly identified according to district procedures.
  • Make specific recommendations to parents and school staff relating to improvements in student performance and adjustment.
  • Share and Interpret assessment findings with parents and school staff.
  • Maintain liaison with agencies and non-school professionals involved with students on an assigned basis.
  • Keep accurate records and prepare reports and summaries as required.
  • Supervise school psychologist interns and practicum students on an assigned basis.
  • Assist staff development and implementation of behavioral and/or academic intervention plans for individual students.
  • Provide consultation to staff related to the application of psychological principles and best educational practices; i.e., develop appropriate practices, curriculum based assessment, social skills curriculum, and collaborative integrated services.
  • Counsel parents and students about impacts of disability in individual and group settings on an assigned basis.
  • Carry out professional job assignments as determined by appropriate coordinator or supervisor of special education.
  • Serve as a cooperative member of district multi-disciplinary team, assisting in the assessment for determination of eligibility, and the development of instructional and behavioral goals.
  • Provide training, assistance and consultation to conduct Functional Behavioral Analysis (FBA) individually or as a team member to identify the function of the student's behavior and to develop effective positive behavior supports and interventions (BIP). Collect and analyze data to determine the effectiveness of the intervention and modify when appropriate.
  • Understand and apply the concepts of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and the application of Discrete Trial Training (DTT) as the basis for instructional strategies used in the classroom and school environment.
  • Participate in continuing education to ensure continued professional growth and awareness.
  • Maintain professional knowledge and expertise by participating in continuing education to ensure continued growth and awareness;
  • Attend, participate, and implement district level program requirements of the IDEA and the WAC.
  • Perform other job-related duties as requested from supervisor.
  • Qualifications
  • Holds certification or is eligible for ESA certification in school psychology in the state of Washington.
  • A master's degree from an accredited institution in school psychology.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the essential requirements within P.L. 101-476 and its application to the provision of appropriate services for disabled students.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with a diverse group of parents, teachers, administrators, and colleagues in providing direct and indirect services to students with disabilities in a confidential manner.
  • Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Prefer previous successful experience as a school psychologist or in a closely related field within a public school setting.
