Description

The Athletics Program Manager is responsible for building, leading, and expanding athletic experiences across Spokane Schools. The Program Manager provides clear direction, leadership, and support to the district's middle school athletics programs and includes the construction and coordination of community and inter-district tournaments. This position also serves as the primary lead for athletics technology systems, while working closely with the Executive Director of Athletics and After School Programs.

  • Benefits--Medical/Dental/Vision through SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board) are provided for employees who work at least 630 hours per academic year.

SALARY RANGE:$90,605 - $108,186
Responsibilities
  • Construct, schedule, and coordinate local tournaments and competitive events, including brackets, seeding, officials, venues, and inter-district and community partner participation. Facilitate community sponsorship opportunities to expand resources and funding.
  • Oversee and grow middle school athletics across Spokane Public Schools, ensuring equitable access to programming at every middle school.
  • Provide leadership, supervision, and development to middle school athletic coordinators, coaches, and site leads, building consistent expectations and structures across schools.
  • Develop and sustain partnerships with neighboring districts, leagues, community organizations, and feeder high schools to expand middle school competition and pathways.
  • Plan and lead middle school athletic seasons, schedules, and programming including summer and intramural opportunities.
  • Facilitate, plan, and lead all aspects of key middle school athletics events and culminating tournaments in partnership with the SPS Athletics/After School Programs Department.
  • Serve as lead for athletics technology systems (registration, eligibility, scheduling, communication, and data platforms), managing implementation, training, troubleshooting, and data integrity.
  • Collaborate around program goals and initiatives within Athletics/After School Programs department, aligning middle school athletics with district priorities and high school pathways.
  • Coordinate staff, coaches, athletics leadership, youth leaders, partnerships, tournaments, events, data reporting, policies, procedures, and safety protocols for middle school athletics.
  • Represent SPS on various committees, leagues, and community events related to middle school athletics.
  • Work within a flexible schedule that includes nights and weekends as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned within the Athletics/After School Programs Department.
  • Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability and aptitude to perform the responsibilities listed above.
  • Master's Degree/School Administrative credential preferred; minimum of five year's experience in athletics management/leadership, middle school programming, community partnership work, and/or a combination of both.
  • Demonstrated experience in athletics organization, with preference for middle school or youth-level program leadership and tournament/event coordination.
  • Knowledge and application of athletics technology systems and various technical platforms, including registration, eligibility, scheduling, and data/reporting tools.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to facilitate meetings and present information in small and large group settings, as well as in virtual settings.
  • Demonstrated skills in use of digital organizational and communication resources.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with diverse groups of students, parents, community stakeholders, and SPS staff.
  • Relate positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Flexible availability nights and weekends and throughout the summer.
