Job PurposeThe Program Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing student leadership development and supporting the event planning and logistical aspects of an exemplary program of new student and family orientation and year-long transition programs designed to integrate students and their families into Gonzaga's Jesuit Catholic university community, promote retention, and facilitate academic success. These programs include, but are not limited to:
New Student Orientation, Parent & Family Orientation, and Fall Family Weekend as well as first year transition programming. The Program Coordinator supports collaborative student success strategies for an increasingly more diverse generation of Gonzaga students and families in collaboration with other departments across campus throughout the year. This position supervises student leaders within the New Student & Family Programs office and reports to the Assistant Director for Events & Operations.
Functions
- 40% - Student Leadership & Development
- Research and implement creative best practices in student leadership and student development for a diverse population of student leaders
- Coordinate and facilitate trainings, meetings, and workshops for student leaders
- Supervise student coordinators and office assistants, including training of tasks, performance management, and communication
- Plan and lead student leader retreats
- Coordinate hiring and onboarding for student coordinators and orientation leaders
- Intentionally hire and develop staff from diverse backgrounds who demonstrate cultural fluency in an effort to meet the department and divisional operational and mission priorities
- 35% - Program Planning & Logistics
- Support Assistant Director of Events & Operations in planning and implementation of large scale programming including, but not limited to, New Student Orientation, Parent & Family Orientation, Fall Family Weekend, and ongoing transition programs for First-Year Students
- Assist in planning, set-up, monitor, and tear down of departmental events, programs, and meetings
- Implement and support first year transition programs occurring throughout the year
- Act as liaison with Transfers, Pre-Orientation/Extended Orientation Programs, and the Center for Global Engagement to ensure all populations are intentionally included in orientation and first year programming
- 25% - Support of New Student & Family Programs Office
- Manage office supplies and purchasing of materials for programming
- Respond and proactively assist with inquiries on multi-phone-line system and email communication in timely manner
- Perform a wide range of administrative duties requiring independent judgment and initiative on assignments
- Utilize thoughtful written and verbal communication skills for a variety of audience sizes and types, including in-person, electronic, and social media avenues
- Participate in departmental and divisional meetings on a regular basis
- Work collaboratively with Student Affairs staff, faculty and other colleagues across campus
- Serve on department and University committees as assigned
- Assist in coordination and completion of special projects, events, and presentations as needed
