Work Schedule:
7.5 hours per day, 184 days per year, starting at the beginning of the 2026/2027 school year.
Salary:
East Valley Certificated Salary Schedule, $59,310 - $119,456 depending on placement per degree, credits, and experience.

Job Summary: Under the direction and supervision of the principal or designee, the counselor will serve as a collaborative leader within the school counseling department and work closely with school staff, parents, students, and the community to create a supportive climate where all students can achieve academic, social-emotional, and postsecondary success. The counselor will provide leadership in the implementation of a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with the ASCA National Model and district strategic goals.
The ideal candidate will possess extensive secondary counseling experience and demonstrated expertise in areas such as High School and Beyond Planning (HSBP), graduation pathways, NCAA eligibility and requirements, AVID Programming, multilingual learner support, master scheduling, postsecondary planning, and intervention systems via an MTSS model. This position requires a student-centered leader who can support and guide fellow counselors, strengthen systems and processes, and advocate for equitable access and outcomes for all students.
School counselors enhance the learning process and promote academic achievement by helping students develop college, career, and life readiness skills while fostering positive relationships and meaningful postsecondary opportunities.
Essential Job Functions:- Provide leadership and collaboration within the counseling department to support consistent practices, comprehensive programming, and alignment with building and district goals.
- Serve as a resource and mentor for counseling staff regarding best practices in secondary counseling, graduation pathways, NCAA eligibility, postsecondary planning, and student support systems.
- Advise, confer, and communicate with parents, EVHS staff, and school district personnel regarding student progress, graduation status, postsecondary readiness, and intervention planning.
- Provide academic, career, and social-emotional guidance for students under his/her direction.
- Provide counseling services for students individually or in small groups.
- Develop and deliver informational presentations to classrooms, families, and high school community events related to college and career readiness, graduation requirements, financial aid, NCAA eligibility, and postsecondary opportunities.
- Demonstrate expertise in High School and Beyond Planning (HSBP) and guide students in developing meaningful postsecondary plans aligned to their goals and graduation pathways.
- Collaborate with administrators and staff to support the development and implementation of the master schedule while ensuring equitable student access to rigorous coursework and graduation requirements.
- Support AVID initiatives and college-going culture efforts throughout the building.
- Through collaboration with our ML Teacher, this position asks this person to support multilingual learners and culturally diverse student populations through equitable counseling practices, family outreach, and individualized academic planning/support.
- Foster connections with middle school counselors and staff to strengthen transitions for students between middle school and high school.
- Communicate with administration/staff regarding high-risk students and referrals to outside agencies, alternative pathway programs, intervention teams, and support services.
- Assist students and families with NCAA eligibility requirements, transcript reviews, and college athletic compliance processes.
